Those of you with Hardwired radar detectors ...

What's the easiest spot to tap for power ? I'm hardwiring my V1 and wondering what would be the easiest place to use as a power source. If you have pics please post up ! I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks, I keep putting this off and always remember when I use the V1 nad see the wire power cord coming from the cig lighter. Doesn't seem that difficult.

I may give it a shot tomorrow.

Green wire with a white strip in the overhead unit is switched power. use the V1 wire tap and rn the power cord between teh headliner and windshield to right above the mirror. Then you can install your V1 above your rear mirror and you'll be all set. Takes less than 15 minutes. I have hardwired the V1 in 3 E70's of ours.

How do I access the overhead unit area ? Do you have pics ?

Kloogy,

Pictures and instructions are all here. It's pretty easy to do.

I just did my install. After much examination and consideration, I realized that it really wasn't hard to run the power wire back to the center console. I used the concealed display (mounted above my R knee at the bottom of the instrument panel, where I can see it through the steering wheel), and just used the cigarette light adapter inside the center console to power the unit (that adapter is 12v, switched with the key). I didn't have to tap into any wires, although I did have to drill a small hole in the inside front of the center console's interior liner, to get the wire through to the center console. I put my V1 on top of the mirror, mounted with a heavy duty (albeit removable) adhesive; seems to be working perfectly. That, and if I get pulled over, I can pop open the center console and unplug the detector before I stop, so as to fully silence it. It's also pretty invisible when looking at the car from outside.

Take some pics.

Ok. It took me all of 15 minutes. Popped open the overhead console, located the green and white striped wire towards the front of the panel. Tapped it and closed everything back up. V1 is hardwired.
