God, I love watching the xDrive sending power to different wheels...

m5james 01-31-2011 06:12 PM

I just love the exhaust note

Naz24 01-31-2011 06:20 PM

i always wondered..is this bad for your car?

I've always had the impression that its not exactly good, so i've never done it

m5james 01-31-2011 06:28 PM

It's just the wheels spinning in loose snow...no better or worse than redlining from a stoplight everytime.

It should be less harmful than spinning tires on dry pavement. There's less shock into the drivetrain when its easier for them to break loose.

I removed the resonators and installed straight pipes. Thats why there louder than normal

m5james 01-31-2011 10:11 PM

X pipes would have been better mechanically since it helps scavenge the exhaust...even the stock resonator is internally x-piped, it's just muffled as well. Either way, it sounds good.

What do you mean by scavenged?

m5james 01-31-2011 10:20 PM

Each exhaust pulse passes by one another at seperate times, so when one passes, it pulls/scavenges the exhaust gasses out of the other pipe at the same time. Im remembering images of some video when I was a kid of using a garden hose, spraying forward, and it pulling things with it from the forward force. Your exhaust does the same thing, which is why when shops make headers, they make them for different lengths, w/ S bends, etc...to achieve the scaveging affect.

I thought it sounded better than stock. I had the resonator cut out and an X pipe added to get a bit more sound out of my X. The 4.8 engines have an amazing soundtrack.
