Looking for more pics...

I just ordered a 2011 E70 X5 Sport (w/Running Boards), and I have a little time before it starts in production to change my color preference. I selected Jet Black / Cinnamon Brown.

However, I'm second guessing my exterior color choice and debating Space Gray and Titanium Silver. I saw a few other posts with some pics which have helped; but I didn't see any Silver pics?

Any good pics to share to help me make a selection?

Here are pics of my Sapphire Black with Cinnamon Brown. I decided I liked the Sapphire over the flatter Jet Black. Love the Cinnamon Brown.

Very nice - I had Sapphire Black on an old X5, which looked great. I'm just in awe of that mirror-like finish of the Jet Black. I'm in California (so weather is not an issue) and the car will always be garaged, so I'll be able to keep it relatively clean.

+1 on Jet Black. Had it for 9 years on my e53 as well.

I love Black vehicles. But you have to be a clean freak like me. If not, a dirty black car looks the worst.

Our '10 M6 is Carbon Black and our '11 Range Rover is Metallic Black. I honestly think the Alpine White X5 looks much worse when dirty. I mean, the white just looks dreadful during and after rain. It is so horrible!! :(

My Gt is white, and I had a few white cars before that. I am so anal about keeping my cars clean that any color drives me ape shit ! :dunno:

Try being like that, and having to deal with that at college, especially Cornell, it's like the arctic tundra here. I swear, it's impossible. Plus, my $700 parking pass gives me an outdoor spot. And I'm just as anal as you!

I feel you. I grew up in NYC. I was bitching here when it rained a whole week after I took delivery on my X5. I know how much worse you guys have it

Yeah, the day after I took delivery of my '11 X5, it rained for almost 14 days straight. I was so pissed. I am off the charts OCD with the car. There are so many places I will not even take the car, because of "bad" park spots. Disneyland, Museums, ball parks, concerts, beach....are all BIG no's for my car. I drive my family and friends nuts. They are so used to it though, they just laugh and hand me the keys to their car, when we have to go somewhere I deem as "bad" for the car!!:D

I clean my wheels 2-3x a week, I clean the front glass 1-2x a day, I dust the car with a CA duster 1-3x a day and wash the car usually every week or so (or as needed). I will NOT drive a dirty car. I even pull over to clean the glass, if a bird nails me. I'm car nuts!!!

xoutpostking 02-03-2011 07:37 AM

Man that is major OCD grande!!! Now just add the M6 and the Range to the mix, is that all you do all day? Just clean your cars!?

I have it down to "a science". Dusting and cleaning the glass is really about 2 minutes. Cleaning the wheels is usually a few times a week, and takes about 5 mins (simple green and a microfiber towel). For full washes, I either have a mobile detailer come to the house, or I drop it off at a car wash & then grab lunch (also use time efficiently:)!

The Spouse drives the Range Rover and likes clean too (of course not to my lstandards...LOL)...but unless it is dirty to the point of freaking me out...I just leave the Rangie alone. Not my daily ride, so not my worries!

Only drive the M6 like once a week, maybe 2x a week. So it stays pretty clean!

FYI--I use P21s Paint Cleanser and their Carnauba wax---big fan of it for years on Jet Black since it's not metallic like Sapphire is--and extremely easy to use.

XFIVEX 02-03-2011 01:21 PM

BGM - looks like it's time to polish. I see some swirls and hazing going on. What are your washing procedures? 2 bucket?

To get them out I suggest Menzerna PO106FA Nano Polish on a porter cable, then protect it with some Zaino Z5 followed by some Z2 with Z6 in-between. I've been dealing with black cars for the last 10 years...

The pic was before I used the p21s Paint Cleanser. I have had 2 X5s now for 10 years (one for 9 years) that are Jet Black so am experienced with them and no swirling. And I don't like Zaino --it's a polymer--doesn't have the shine and clarity as a carnauba does--it's just more durable.

omg, you just explained me in a NUTSHELL!. i wont let people touch the wood trim in my car, i freak out when it starts raining, and after got "crap" spurted on my car from truck on the freeway, i had to pull over, pull out my meguiars spray wax, and clean it off. It DROVE ME NUTS!

my friends think i'm crazy, especially as a college student, i dont know anybody at my school who is like me..

my mom even ordered me those paper mats that dealers put in your car. I use them for hauling around messy kids at my school. it makes me crazy when i see their muddy and salty footprints on my clean all weather mats. Then they all complain that they hate stepping on the paper mats, well they can go F themselves!

When I was in College, at the time I had a 2000 Mercedes SL500. Being a 2 seater helped me not having to take a bunch of friends in the car, and when I did...I made sure shoes were cleaned, and NO fast food or drinks!

Dirty trucks spurting crap on the highway is the worst. Hate that!

Btw, your 2004 E53 4.4i is a GREAT car. On my 30th B'day I was hit by a pickup truck that was travelling about 50/55mph! The Police and emergency workers told me the X5 saved my life, and had I been in another car, I would have been dead on impact. The Side head curtain saved me! Here's a pic of my 2004 4.4i, after the accident!

Now I WANT a Titanium Silver E70!! On the last model (E53) X5, all you saw was Black and Silver. It seems on the E70, white is very popular, with of course black and sapphire black as well. I think I have maybe seen 1 or 2 Titanium Silver E70s since 2007!

The Silver looks AMAZING on your car. I love it. Now it makes me not love my Alpine White as much, after seeing your Silver  :(

Not to change subject of the OP--but here was my '01 this past Labor Day--I was t-boned on the right side, it hit the pavement on it's left side, bounced clear over to the right and landed right side. I walked away with a scraped elbow (from the glass that was underneath me as I was suspended in mid air by the seatbelt). This was the 2nd major collision I was in with it--walked away from the 1st one as well.

WOW!! Did they total it, after this, the 2nd accident? If the first collision was major, why didn't it get totaled? I worry that structural integrity is compromised after an accident (unless the damage is just bumpers or cosmetic).

The E53 is and was a GREAT SAV!!!!

It was close to getting totaled the 1st time--I had about $20K in repairs and the KBB was $27K at the time. I also filed a Diminished Value claim and got a check for $6K for it. And the body shop is really good and said they can fix it (there was no frame rail damage since I got hit in the engine compartment)--they did and it was rock solid after-- 4.5 years late and hit again. This time as you can see--was not fixable. I got a check for $14K for mine from the accident.

We have an '11 Space Grey which I really love. For instance, I just got back after a week of traveling and wifey had to drive it in the rain. Not only that, but the school shares the same road as the dump so it's mud + rain.

Oddly, when she picked me up at the airport I didn't even realize it was dirty at all until 3 feet from it.

Secondly, since EPA has forced changes in painting, USA-built cars are not getting nearly as smooth a color coat. The "pebbled" result (similar to orange peel) is most prominent in blacks.

Attached are some bad pics I took while playing with temporary pin strips.

Wow - absolutely gorgeous!

Thanks to Nynd and Trainer, I called the dealer and changed the color combo to Titanium Silver / Black Nevada Leather (previously Jet Black / Cinnamon Brown). I think the fact there aren't as many silver E70's out there makes me want it even more!

Thanks all for the help!

GOOD move. I think you will be so happy with Titanium Silver. I have had it on about 4-5 BMWs, and it just always looks good!!

I think the reason why you don't see as many Titanium Silver e70s is when the e70 came out they introduced Space Gray as a color--and it immediately took off as if "Space Gray is the new Titanium Silver". But in general, if I was to place bets, Alpine White, Titanium Silver and both blacks are BMWs top 3 colors in sales among all models.
