To buy or not to buy BMW Tire Protection?

I'm picking up the X5 tomorrow and am wondering if its worth it to buy the tire protection? How much is it? Has anyone used their warranty?

It was around $600 bucks. Not worth it in my opinion. They are going to quote you dealer's price for replacing a tire. I can get the exact same ones for almost half of their price. Same happened with my E92.

I've had 3 X5's since 2001, never had the use for it once.

Think of it this way. If the dealer is trying to sell it to you in the Finance office, there is a 90% chance that you don't need it. The only thing I got was the wear and tear warranty which covers worn tires and dents, scratches and windshield. If I get a crack in my windshield, that alone will pay for 3 of the warranties. I also can turn my X5 in with bald tires and they will replace them for no cost to me.

Me too. My dad had a rock chip the windshield on his 5 series, and it was close to 2 grand to replace it. :wow:

He was with me when I got the X5 and told me to make sure I got that coverage.

I bought mine in Oct last year and bought the protection (I have the 20"s). I paid $1,100 (Beverly Hills BMW). Literally, the first 10 minutes I drove it (I was on the way to my dealer to get it put in the system there) I picked up 2 nails in the rears. Dealer replaced both on the spot for $550 each--3 weeks later had another one they replaced. So I am already ahead--and it's a 5 year warranty. The 20"s are so wide and soft they pick up everything in the road.

C'mon, ard, I know you are just waiting to chime on this topic ha.

I normally would not get any of these additional warranties either but when I had my Range Rover, I got 3 nails in a span on 1 year. And those patches don't work very well. I seem to be a magnet for nails.
I didn't know about the wear and tear warranty...now another one for me to look into! But $700 doesn't seem too bad and may def be worth it. I'm so anal about my car, it actually seems like a good idea.
