idrive turned off

It's been some time since I jumped on the forum. Just wanted to comment on how my idrive turned off while driving; this happened almost two weeks ago. Screen went blank and then the "BMW" screen appeared a few seconds later. Has this happened to any of you? Do I need a update to my system. Haven't had any other issues and I still love the X5.

This EXACT thing used to happen in my 2010 750i. I happened maybe 6-7 times in about 9 months. The dealer told me as long as the screen comes back...there is nothing that can, or needs to be done. For some reason, the iDrive just reboots (power surge, power dip...or just Bavarian Gremlins). "Normal"...well Normal for BMW standards LOL

Not sure how it can ever be explained - "Normal" Never happened in my 06' E60. In addition to the idrive turning off, it has has issues getting hung up on screens. When the screen went off I got nervous and slowed down, but I never lost the ability to drive the X.

Kreed X5,
This same thing happened to me. I have a 2011 X5 35i. Got it 6-11. This started happening in Oct and only happened in the morning on cold days. I put up with it for a while but finally took it in to service in Dec. They had to replace the navigation and it took a few days for the computer to reboot with the most up to date software but now it works good as new (covered under warranty). As a bonus, when I tried to turn on the sat radio, I had to call Sirius and explain what happened b/c the display said I needed to activate my subscription. They renewed me for a full year so I got a free 6 months of Sirius in the transaction.

Hope this helps.
