X5 intermittent liftgate handle failure

I have a 2008 X5 built in 2/08 with the automatic liftgate option. Pressing the liftgate handle sometimes fails to open the liftgate. It seems to happen just after turning off the engine having driven the car for 10 miles. It doesn't happen if the car has been sitting for hours. The button on the center console has never failed to open the liftgate.

The service advisor thought an undervoltage problem had left the car in transport mode and caused the liftgate handle to fail. They claimed to have fixed this but the intermittent liftgate handle failures persist.

If some other owner has had this problem and did get it fixed, I'd be interested in what needed to be done.

First time I'm hearing of such an issue on this forum. I would definitely bring it to another dealer. If they can't get it to happen, take a video of it - well do it first to save time perhaps.

lately I have noticed that when I grab the handle from the outside the liftgate struggles to go up, moves very lethargic.. is that what you mean?
