Sport Suspension delete on 35d?

Am I understanding this correctly in that the 35d with the Sport Package will NOT have the sport suspension that a 35i with Sport would have?

My 35i Sport has not gone into production yet, and given the significant volume of positive feedback on the 35d on this board, I'm considering making a switch (again). Therefore, other than fuel economy (despite higher Diesel gas prices) and the improved torque, I'm curious whether if would be losing a tighter suspension that I would otherwise be getting with the 35i Sport.

Thoughts?

No you are not correct about the 35i sport but are correct about the 35d with sport activity package.

The "sport" suspension for the 35d is the adaptive drive option which is the same for the 35i sport. However, with the 35i sport, the M Sport package includes adaptive drive or you can order it separately.

Confusion reigns. Just stop calling 'adaptive' anything 'sport' and that may clarify?

I have adaptive drive and it has a sport setting.

But it is not "the" sport suspension.

The confusion stems from the old "sport package" which included AD. As such I beleive it had to include sport suspension delete. Now they've made AD a separate option. I personally beleive they just left in 'sport delete' language in the descriptor.

Love to find out what springs and struts are REALLY in all the packages...

So what about ordering 220A alone?

With option 220, there is not traditional coil spring. It is only the pneumatic spring. There is one for the standard suspension, sport and adaptive drive.

See: RealOEM.com * BMW E70N X5 35dX LEVELL.DEVICE, AIR SPRING AND CTRL UNIT

The front springs depend on other options.

What I am getting at is can you order a car with 220A but without the third row seats...

Special ordering, like you in fact did!

I don't see why you cannot order 220 as a stand alone option. there is no technical reason not to allow it.

Since I don't want to resurrect Jim E's "other" (excellent) thread, I will ask him here:

When you order a special color like that (gorgeous) Mistral Blue, does the $5,000 upcharge include the "OE Orange Peel Delete" option?

(For that matter, does your DSB have as much orange peel as mine? Or does a car with Individual Options get more TLC in the paint booth?)

AzNMpower32 02-24-2011 05:37 PM

No US-spec vehicles are fitted with sport suspension. Standard X5s get the normal suspension, and the other choice is Adaptive drive.

The suspension delete is just a factory code to delete the firmer suspension from the Sport Activity Package for American cars. People here like the wheels and seats but not the firmer ride, so BMW only lets folks upgrade to the Adaptive drive.

Leeman 02-24-2011 05:53 PM

I was telling a friend the other day who commented on orange peel on my 2011 X5 that if its a BMW and you didn't see orange peel, then its been repainted !

LOL!

Yes, it does include orange peel. :wow:

I haven't really analyzed the X5 because it's been a pretty crappy winter but I'm sure it has the standard orange peel.

I'd wet sand the paint but it's really not worth it imo. This is as far as I'll go: Menzerna USA: The World's Finest Polishing Materials

Now my 99 E36 M3? That's another story. ;)
