Clearplex film for the front windshield

Hi All,

Has anyone tried the clearplex or any other brand film for the front windshield?

I have had 2 other cars and they have those small pits from freeway driving and in clear sun, the whole windshield looks pretty beaten up.

Are there any films for the front windshield that ppl use to protect it.

Thanks.

Is that even legal in the US?

It's an optically clear film...read on some other forums.

Any X5 owners had it done?

Hi, I'm using 3M on the windscreen in addition to the normal places. Doesn't interfere with the HUD unit, and once it's worn, just peel off and replace with another sheet.

Cheers,

Cheers,

How much did it cost?

Does it interfere with the wipers or cause streaking? Is it worth it?

I would say so, have a few areas that were pelted with small stone pieces. The truck is large, so if you're going to be on the interstate much, then do it. Good for the wipers and no for smudging. It does however take some clarity away at night time, so for instance cars' headlights approaching you will not be a solid clear picture, will be ever so slightly hazy to eyesight.

Hope this helps,

Cheers

Not sure it is legal or not but we use it on race cars. Come in change tires, fuel and peel off. Good to go.

Would love to know a source and an approximation of typical cost. Is it a "do it yourself" type thing, or have to be professionally applied?

Where in the US are you all? S. CA here.

Good idea and, am thinking about it. Their site doesn't list cost or time involved, but might be worth it for our various trips.
Rarely drive after dark, and it is really worth investigating for our planned long summer road trip. Only glitch is there are few
installers near either of our two joints.
