Interesting Excerpt from the Wall Street Journal
An example of the advanced remote diagnostics available on today's BMWs!
--------------------------------------------------------------------- "Nobody in the auto business or the auto-safety regulation business likes to blame drivers for making dangerous mistakes. But the expanding push to foolproof vehicles speaks loudly about the lack of faith in the abilities of the average driver. And given auto makers experience with drivers' lack of awareness, it may be for good reason. For instance, a BMW owner called the company's call center to complain that his car wouldn't start, stranding him in an airport parking lot. The diagnosis, Mr. Baloga says, was delivered via the car's cellphone link after the call center worker assessed information relayed from the car: The vehicle had no gas. The owner realized he had forgotten to hit the off button on the keyless ignition, and left the vehicle running—very quietly—while he headed for the plane." --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
Funny... My guess is that the driver had comfort access option :)

Funny, but I embarassingly did this in my last E-Class. Parked the car with my Mom and my son...and we went shopping (for over 2 hours). Thank G-d the car was not stolen. When I got back to the car, and was strapping my son in his car seat, I could not understand why there was so much heat generating from under the car. Uhhhh, well because bonehead/idiot me left it running for over 2 hours!!! I felt so stupid. Comfort Access/Keyless-Go (MBZ lingo) is great, but one does have to remember to turn the car off!!! :) Needles to say, I have NEVER done this again!!

I just read an article that someone with a Lexus with keyless entry left it running in their garage and someone died of carbon monoxide poisoning, so they where suing Toyota saying the car should have been smart enough to realize they where an idiot and left with the key, so it should shut itself off.
Love the world we live in - no one is responsible! |

So true my Dinan would never let me forget it is running.

Another advantage for the Diesel.

indeed extremely quiet and I've nearly gotten out completely without seeing the RPM was not 0!
also did a Lexus event and got into the RX400h and as soon as I did I asked if I had to start it first... oops, it's already running. |
