Glove Box Stuck Closed?
 

After emptying the contents of the glovebox on my 2011 X5 I closed the glovebox. When I returned to store my owners mannual I can't open the glovebox. I hear a definate "click" when I press the release button but the clamshell style doors don't open now?? Is there a reset? I need the emergency release cable secret!

I have the same problem on my '07.
But I really don't use it and since it is off warranty (universal), I haven't bothered to get it fixed. I will whenever I sell it.
Is there a release cable???

I had a similar problem with recently purchased '07. But in my case it was clear the upper half of the door had warped slightly, enough that after a few mm of door travel the warping would interfere with the lower door movement. I could use my finger to nudge it past that point and let the springs fully open the doors.

Possibly try gently prying the doors after the click release, if the doors are slightly warped it may just need a slight nudge from the closed position.

I was just under the warranty and they replaced the upper door for me - took an hour and they had the part in stock at the dealer, so appears to be a common "wear" item...

Yes there is a release cable, but finding access to the end panel on the passenger side of the dash eludes me... No screws or pry points are visible to remove it.

I have tried all manners of gently prodding, pulling and pushing the doors in combination with the release button and no luck so far.

This just happened to me as well, before I call my SA tomorrow, did you get yours fixed?

It was a blown fuse and it took the local dealer 2 hours to figure that out.

He did indicate it was a separate fuse.

Correct... there is a hand release cable stashed under the glovebox. I have seen photos online a few years back.

All of this combined with all the issues I'm having (most of which others on here are also experiencing) with both X5's is moving me closer and closer to being done with the X5 and possibly BMW all together.

I haven't been without a BMW in many, many years but I'm almost at the point that I'm done with them.

My X5 MSport is a rattle trap that the dealer tells me can't be fixed and isn't covered under warranty because it "normal wear and tear". It's $70k car with less than 20k miles on it and it rattles like a 74 chevy vega.

Both the X5M and the MSport drivers seats squeak and pop to the point I don't even want to get in them. The dealer says "normal wear and tear" The X5M is a $100k car that I pretty much now hate to get in because every bump I hit or every time the car accelerates or brake the seat makes noise.

The MSports seat is just as bad, it also has a rip in the leather where it pushes against the plastic seat trim, it was obviously cut by the plastic.

The dealer will fix that, but three dealers have said the seat noise is normal wear and tear.

I'm just about done.
