Water Spots on a 2 month old X5 - can't remove
Hi Friends,
My X5 is 2 months old and is garaged at home and in the office. The only time it's in the open is when it's running. I have 50-100 1/4inch round hard water spots all over the hood (haven't checked the roof yet) and when I washed/zaino'd my car last week - I only noticed a few spots but the wax was unable to remove them. The car has been in rain 3-4 times. How can I remove those water spots? Did I mess up by waxing on top of it. Please help. Thanks. |
You might need to use a claybar.....it's a lot of work but it works.......Phil

Agree on the claybar being the thing to try...STRONGLY disagree it is a lot of work!
Just lube up the paint and slide it around repeatedly... It will strip your sealant/wax, so you need to reapply, but diligently going over the spots should shear off the mineral deposits that leave the spots. A |
claying is the easiest part! And, it's the most important part!!!!! You will need to rewash with Dawn to get rid of the zaino, then clay and then rewash with car wash, then zaino. Good luck!

The hard water spots can't be from rain. Maybe from neighbors sprinkler;) or tap water. Clay + Menzerna / Zaino with PC
First 3 steps with PC, last step by hand. |
Vinegar will sometimes help also, or Chemical guys make a water spot remover. If that and or the clay bar doesntbdo it, then it has etched the clear coat and fixing that will require some machine polishing to remove.
I also like the zaino products, but after having water spot issues, have been topping with a good carnuba wax which seems to help offer more protection from hard water. |
I have used zaino on small cars, but too much work and too many steps for the x5 for me! I clay, then use swissvax paint prep and cover with swissvax wax. I have to detail more often, but I like the depth of the shine with carnuba vs zaino. I also use spray on wax when drying the vehicle to keep it fresh!

Wouldn't liquid clay work just as well as regular clay? It's as easy as wiping a kitchen counter in my experience. My rear aero kit under the pipes needs it often but the only hard work is going to grab the bottle. $10, Walmart, go.

Is "Liquid clay" the name of a product or actually liquid clay?
The mechanical/physical way in which clay 'works', seems to indicate to me that clay is clay, and "liquid clay" is probably some type of mild abrasive or 'compound-like' stuff. |
