Rough thunk when accelerating...
 

I'm new with the E70, having driven an E53 for several years.

I think the E70 has a feature that puts the car into "Park" when you are stopped at a light or at a stop sign. It seems like when I start to accelerate from a stop like this, the transition to accelerator happens with a "thunk" or rough shift point. It doesn't happe every time, but it probably happens 25-30% of the time.

Is this normal?

Also - why do you have to pull the door handle twice when exiting from the drivers seat?

Are you talking about the Auto Hold feature? Does the thunk happen right when you start or after it accelerates and then shifts?

It happens right as I start. It might be the AutoHold. Seems pretty rough however. Can I disable AutoHold using the button on the console?

I seem to recall Weasel posting about some known issues with this...

Yes. Next to the shifter there is a button that says Auto H. You can read about how it works in the manual. I have use it before and I don't recall a thud when starting. You may need an update on your trans software but I don't remember reading about this issue before

My 2008 doesn't bump with Auto-Hold and I use it more often then probably anyone in the world, since I drive on the worlds most busiest highway, 401, Toronto, Canada. So I think it differs from SAV to SAV (quality control issue most probably).

And to answer why do you have to pull the door handle twice to open the door....well the first time you pull it, it unlocks your door and the 2nd time it opens it up. You have to "pull twice" only once on any door, any it will open all doors automatically (unless you have setup the door locks to Driver door only).

that was me, but I think you're talking about 2 different issues here.

When I use auto-hold and stop, it will "catch" the parking brake when fully stopped. When I go, there's sometimes an audible sound when it releases.

The issue you linked to above, is a thump that you can actually feel - a slight jolt (which happens on brake release, not necessarily acceleration). A programming helped that one.

The auto-hold sound I've taken as normal.
