GP Thunder VS LED

2 Attachment(s)
I wanted to show a comparison of the GP thunder and the LED i bought for the x5. If you are thinking of changing from stock, hope this helps.

what do guys think, which one would you stay w/? left, LED. right, GP

Jordo 03-26-2011 06:20 PM

I change my mind depending on the pic. lol. The top one I like the outer ring. The bottom pic I like the inner. The top one looks like the ring isn't a solid ring. Look broken up. Just from the camera?

xoutpostking 03-26-2011 09:04 PM

Gp looks real bad compared to true led.

TorontoKhan 03-26-2011 10:09 PM

LED looks much sophisticated while GP light is all over the place.

BCA 03-26-2011 10:52 PM

Really hard to tell from those pics but I imagine that most would say that the preference is Factory LED > Aftermarket LED > GP Thunder

Epacy 03-27-2011 01:39 AM

This isn't even a comparison and shame on you for buying both. Even more shame if you didn't buy LUX.

Kloogy 03-27-2011 11:39 AM

That is not LUX. Looks like some generic LED. Both are performing to what you would expect from their pricing.

roadkillrob 03-27-2011 12:01 PM

The color of the LED is a bit better, but in bright light I am betting it washes out quite a lot. If these are $100 LED's, they are not worth the 90 bucks extra over the GP Thunders.
If you want good LED's, LUX is the way to go, but a bit more money!

rh71 03-27-2011 07:10 PM

^ sums it up nicely.

roadkillrob 03-27-2011 07:48 PM

Talking from experience also, ran the $100 LED butterfly style, stunk in bright light and lasted about 4 months, switched to $15 GP Thunders and found them better in daylight, 8500K come pretty close to the LED color vs the 7500k - was happier with them if they where the same price, but save the money and run the GP Thunders. Recently went to the LUX V3's and they are the best thing I have tried, no dimming when the lights are on, very white and bright and light the outer ring better than anything I have found to date short of replacing the rings fully with LED's.

Those look like the leds from ijdmtoy.com. They look great I heard here's some pics I got off there website

Jordo 03-28-2011 12:58 PM

^ those are nice and Blue ! My Depo brand headlights have a little Purple in the rings.... Well depends on when you look at'em. During the day they are Blue with a Purple tint. And at night they are Blue with a white tint to it. Wierd.

Any light looks good in the absence of it. Dark shots are not a good indication of how the light output is.

I think so too.

i dont have any pics w/ arches n running boards yet.

rh71 03-28-2011 11:23 PM

what are you using for the fogs there? GP Thunders have a blue tint which I can't seem to get rid of even after dropping to 7500k...

Maybe that's what you're using and the camera is playing tricks.

BTW, I like how the 2 inner coronas are a little brighter... it's unique and works for me.

if i remember correctly it was just under 20 bucks from ebay.

Epacy 03-29-2011 10:12 AM

I've got HTEC H11s in my fog. So much whiter and really match the HIDs/LUX. Looks is eleventybillion times better.

I got the same ones from Ijdm.com. At night and sunset, they look pretty sick.

Only 11 billion times better? Well, I'm holding out for something 12 billion times better - even numbers are always better!

80W. Isn't that too high of wattage? The car specs are for 35W, like the GP Thunder bulbs.

E53BX 07-15-2011 10:01 AM

Installed Lux v3

After my leds went bad after only 3 months, i went ahead and jumped on the Lux v3. What a difference. definitely worth it. will post some pics this weekend. too bad i didn't go with Lux to begin with.
