What angel eye upgrade to get?

Hey,

Which angel eye bulbs do you guys recommend? I have have not see a DIY anywhere, can you direct me to one?

J

Gregory34 03-31-2011 02:45 PM

I went LUX v3 and have been very pleased. It's totally DIY, however, I didn't do it myself (hands were too big)! I've posted pics on this forum if you search for them.

E53BX 03-31-2011 02:59 PM

some people have gone w/ LUX.
depends on preferences i guess........i recently posted some pics showing what i believe is the difference between the GP thunder and $100 LEDs.

http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...er-vs-led.html

hope this helps a little.

Jarola 03-31-2011 03:02 PM

I like the LEDs better, $100 is tough to get wife approval though. I changed AE on our 530i for $40.00 and they look great.

Jarola 03-31-2011 03:07 PM

Are the angel eyes just straight H8 bulbs? Found these, looks good in the pictures....

H8, yes, those are the same ones on the pic on the first post i showed u.
i bought both, gp and leds, i kept the led.

Jarola 03-31-2011 03:22 PM

Ok thanks, will give it a shot with a $20.00 pair. As long as they are whiter and a bit bighter...

roadkillrob 04-01-2011 11:15 AM

I have run the $100 LED's and the $15 GPThunder 8500k and now have the LUX V3 which rock.

The GPThunders are a nice upgrade for short money, make sure you get 8500k color if you want them whiter/blueish.

The $100 LED's don't look any better in my book that the GPThunders, a little whiter, but in direct sunlight, the GPThunders light the outers better - waste of the extra $80 in my book.

The Lux V3's are very nice, perfect LED light and light the outer ring very well, they also don't dim when the headlights are on. It was hard to swallow the price for light bulbs, but after trying everything else, they are the hands down winner. The V2 version was the same bulb but required external wiring to hang out of the headlight, so I never went for those, but the V3's are not the best option if you are willing to spend the money!

marshotel 04-01-2011 11:25 AM

PIAA has a new one, the H-505. They are expensive but I wonder if it is worth the money. Has anyone tried these?

$335.00....crazy!

Raph27 04-01-2011 12:42 PM

Wher can I get the Lux V3? thanks

CB35i 04-01-2011 03:21 PM

I think this is the PIAA H505, anybody here using that? It will be interesting to see how it compares to the LUX.

I would like to see the difference as well. I thought about buying them but $300 is a bit much for an experiment. If I knew they would be better I wouldn't mind spending the money.

kakalika 04-01-2011 06:16 PM

Somehow, I doubt that these ebay lights are genuine PIAA. Coming from Hong Kong in that box, I don't think so. :dunno:

I had my doubts but I found the PIAA's Japanese website:

BMW専用『New LED RING BULBシリーズ』新登場。|PIAAニュース|PIAA

However, at $300 it is a risk if it didn't work out better than the LUX.

They look great. How much did they cost? Did you change your fogs?

rh71 04-05-2011 12:59 PM

I thought the LUX V3 was on pre-order still.

Nope. I got mine early March...

dbox 04-05-2011 03:11 PM

I installed the Alpine HIDs. love em...

finagle69 04-05-2011 03:33 PM

^ I've read too many stories from the M3 crowd that any HID will eventually discolor (yellow) the angel eye ring. I love the way they look though.

I'll be getting Lux V3 once I decide to buy.

yellow the glass ring? shoot me a link if you can. I've never heard of that before. I've had mine in for 2 months without any issues. I'll definitely keep my eye out for any yellow'ing.

ChuckG 04-05-2011 04:42 PM

I am going to wait and see if the LED angel lights from the 2012 will fit in my 2010 X5.

Chuck

finagle69 04-05-2011 04:54 PM

No prob. I ran across this thread while looking at AE options. It would obviously take time, but I don't want to put myself in that position.

thnx, bro. Hard to believe the AE rings are plastic...definitely felt like glass to me when I installed the HIDs.

Since no one has any experience with PIAA, I guess the choices are down to the iJDM for $120 on its website or the Lux for $245. LUX claims it is made in USA and I believe the iJDM one is made in China. Anyone using iJDM has any issues with codes or anything?

Thanks in advance.

My Lux bulbs were shipped from western MA, so they appear to be made in the good ol' USA.

finagle69 04-07-2011 07:51 PM

I've had products from iJDM for past cars, but none that did bulb checks.

I went ahead and ordered the LUX, but it appears that the estimated shipping date is now 4/29/11. :-/

e70sim 04-08-2011 01:40 AM

M still waiting for my LUX that i ordered early march.

No error codes on dash.
i'm sure they are made in china or korea something like that.
but they shipped from cali to ny in like 4 days.
i'm satisfied with them. if they ever stop working for whatever reason, i might decide to drop 250 for LED's.

xoutpostking 04-08-2011 10:52 AM

The iJDM ones ARE LEDs.

Dont trust pictures.

All I can say is I like them better than stock. The outer rings could be a little brighter, but I'm good with what I have.

The outer rings look barely on there in the first pic - I was thinking those are GP Thunders rather than $250 lux v3s.

Like I said, don't trust pictures ... not even from me. But i'll be honest, I posted the worst pictures that I have for a reason. I like my car to hav a "unique" look. I don't want to see a bunch of other X5 looking like mine on the roads.

The outer rings are visible, and they look good from the front, but from the front/side, you can't tell as much ... until the sun starts going down of course.

LUX is expensive (took no time to install). Get the ones you want and lemme know how u like em.

Noodles 04-12-2011 12:59 PM

Mmm not to burst your bubble..but your car, my car every car pre oem led will have light output on the road like that. Unless you meant specifically wanting to be unique with a pics of the side ok.. But unless you have the oem led,OSS or ls3 that's how they will all show even the oem coronas the outer ring will only be visible at certain angles. It's just how the internal is constructed.

Pics need to be taken at eye level and bout 20' away. No I don't work for lux.

FernMD 04-13-2011 01:23 AM

I installed the LUX H8 v3 bulbs and I love them. They look so much better then stock. I had the angelibrights on my E53 and these are so much brighter.

Valk 04-14-2011 02:03 AM

Any difference between pre LCI models and 2011 in the matter of discussion? Will the same bulbs fit both?

Couldnt find LUX v3 kits on the web, can anybody provide a link please? And maybe some daylight pics?

Now I am choosing between 6W 30 degrees and 3W 60 degrees . Any feedback on those?

I was just notified that my order for WeissLicht Ultra-Bright LED Angel Eye and WeissLicht PY24W LED Turn Signal have been shipped from JLeviSW and I should get it within the next couple of days. They promised a uniformed 6000k xenon white color to match. I will post some pics later this week.

balx5 04-26-2011 02:03 PM

I installed these, fingers crossed no error code. The first pic is a 68 SMT LED H8 and the second one is with Noyka Arctic White. I like the LED look for $9.

Really no error codes? That's hard to believe since the LEDs draw so little power, the system does not see them being there, hence the error code.

CB35i 04-26-2011 03:17 PM

My order of Weisslicht LED angel and PY24W will arrive when I get home tonight. I will tried to post some pics once they are installed.

oh snap, LOL. for a moment there I only looked at your sig picture with the E53. which is gone now!!!!!!

NOX 3.2 04-26-2011 06:12 PM

Are LUX v3 the brightest out there?
need to be sure before spending $240 - $280 for the set.

CB35i 04-27-2011 01:58 PM

The weislicht angel LED is working great.
however the py24w doesn't fit too well and I messed up my housing socket.

Noodles 04-27-2011 02:40 PM

Hid angels would be brightest. But they bleed out and looks like giant ball of light at night. Then it's the lux v3, also good thing about them is you can cram everything in the headlight housing and depending on hand size, install is 10 min for both sides total!

Hid - brightest, cost is cheapest, install a bit longer, some wires need to be tucked, light bleeding

Lux v3 - good uniform light distribution, bright but not over blinding, best part is everything goes in housing n fast install.

Hope it helps.

Knock on wood, 2 days and still no error day and night driving.

Correction, it was actually $12.50 instead $9 for the 68 SMD LED H8 bulb, no extra wires or box, just the bulb.

LUX are the way to go. Best combination of bright/even IMO. They're not perfect, but pretty close...
