Jeans staining beige leather..anyone?
I've been having a problem with my beige leather interior....all my jeans after a while stain the leather.
The dye from the jeans transfers to the seat especially in the left area of the seat which rubs with my pants every time I get in and out. Anyone else have this problem or do I just have crappy quality jeans? I had a seat pad for a while but it looks terrible and I don't like having cushions or any type of after market pad on top of my seat. I thought maybe a Scotchgard type spray may help. |
I have the same problem with my beige interior I first used armor all wipes but it took a little of the beige color out and the jeans stains all well. But now I use black magic interior spray it removes the jeans stain only not the seat color so I'm happy with it.

Black Magic Car Care Products - Interiors ?? |
I have the same issue with the saddle interior in my car, Zaino leather cleaners takes care of it for me!
|
Simple answer: Don't wear jeans in the car.:bustingup
|
No problems for me at all. Just cleaned the seats after owning my 2011 X5 for 10 months and they were still pretty clean.
I use Lexol cleaner and conditioner. |
From the replies I guess I'm not the only one!
I figured a good leather cleaner would do the trick but my main concern was the dye from the jeans would possibly transfer onto the leather permanently and wouldn't come off. I'll purchase a good leather cleaner and give my seat a good clean tomorrow. I guess the only option is to simply let the seat get stained and clean it often.....and no....not wearing jeans isn't an option since that's all I wear....7 days a week...365 days a year....or I could drive with my pants down but that's probably not a good idea! lol... |
Same here, got blue jeans stains on exactly the same place as yours. And they were not even cheap jeans or something, but rain had it coming for me I guess.
Where I am at, I can't find Black Magic and Zaino, but I could find Meguiars Rich Leather Cleaner, what say you all about this product? |
Read any 7, 5, 3, X3, Z4 board or any Mercedes or Range Rover board....and it happens to everyone. My Mom's 1994 E320 had super light, cream beige leather. She had the car for like 12 years...the leather looked brand new. Our neighbors 1989 560SL still has perfect leather. Car compaines nowadays must be using very cheap hides, and/or bad leather dyes.
I have to wipe my Oyster leather down EVERY week to keep the blue jeans stains away. It takes literally 30 seconds. So easy. I use Mother's leather cleaner & conditioner or Lexol. Both work fine. I love the looks of my oyster & black interior...so a little 30 seconds of leather maint once a week is no big deal to me. |
A friend of mine has an oyster interior...looks like crap. Why do people insist the light colors are easy to keep clean and look great??

^^ Maybe you guys don't have kids, but there is no way that you are keeping light leather clean with toddlers and slightly older
|
FWIW.. The same area (on the left of the driver's seat) gets quite dirty on mine too. Mine's what is it? Sandy beige or whatever? (perforated)
At first I thought "is this ACTUALLY coming apart already?" but no, it's just dirty. The rest of the seats get good use and they're spotless. The dealer talked me out of nappa seats - said they don't hold up well and most of their customers are not very happy with them. I kind of had to listen because why would someone who makes a living selling me more and more expensive crap tell me not to buy it? I do also like having my fat butt ventilated. That car gets hot. And yes, I think people with very light interiors are crazy too. |

:iagree: I have oyster, and it looks flawless!! I have a 4 year old with lots of 4 year old friends. Day to day scuffs just wipe off with my hand or a little water. Blue jeans marks come off immediately with some Mother's or Lexol leather cleaner. The 2-tone oyster & black looks, IMO, amazing. For like 15 years, I always got, black, black, black leather. Now with the oyster, I feel the black is so spartan, a little drab and so dark!! |

Remember, oyster has black carpets, door panels, black seat panels, etc. etc. I think easier than Sand beige to keep clean. I LOVE the oyster!!! And black leather with little kids, shows every smudge mark too!!! |

Sand beige has light carpets, door panels, door sills, etc, etc... Oyster/black is, for me, MUCH easier to keep looking brand new, compared to Sand Beige! |

Use a seat pad. Don't be a "jerk" on that. I've seen seat pads in several high end cars like Bentleys, etc. It's meant to PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT. You'll be happy you did when it's time to sell... |

Same problem on a previous X5 with grey interior. I will never, ever, buy another car with a light interior. Major pita to keep clean & shows every mark. Current X5 has a black interiror. BTW - don;t think it is quality of the jeans. The X5 was my wife's car and whatever those fancy jeans are she wears faded all over the seats.

It may be obvious to everyone, but, the darker the jeans, the more likely they are to rub off on your leather. I don't wear my dark jeans very often because I don't want them jacking up my oyster leather. I wear medium-light ones now and I'm not getting any transfer. I understand though that the color spectrum acceptable is wider for me, being a girl and all.
I wear jeans every day. I wouldn't fit in with the other developers if I didn't wear jeans! Heck, mine are high-class because they don't have non-designer holes in them. |

Well, yeah, you did suggest cheap jeans. I only get it from my cheap black pair. No other of my jeans do it to my seat. Dunno where you are, but I'm in Florida. Unless you're in Cali or Morrocco or Dubia, trust me when I tell you, high end vehicles in S. Florida come a dime a dozen. there are tons of RR drops, Bentleys, Jaqs, MB, Maz, Lambys and ferrars down here. I've seen plenty of them with seat cushions ... and the cushions compliment the interior. Get one customised to your liking if you want to. It's still better than scoffing your interior. But hey, it's YOUR car not mine. You created this post because there is clearly a "problem" with your pants and your interior. If you don't want to take any steps to prevent it ... live with it. |
I'm surprised no one suggested taking your pants off.
No need for cushions or new jeans. Problem solved. Eventually you might even get to post a youtube video of yourself explaining to a cop how blue jean dye transfers to Oyster interiors in a BMW. |
We've seen the same problem. The Nappa leather seems to be worse than the Merino for some reason. Lexol seems to take care of the stains though.
