Significant Delays - Performance Center Experience
 

Just got this email from my center. This really stinks! He said he thinks this means I won't get delivery until the middle of June if I'm doing PCD. Otherwise we could have delivery in May if it was shipped to our center.

Anyone else running into this problem?

We have received your Performance Center Delivery Reservation for INSERT MY NAME HERE(Production # my prod number). Due to the overwhelming amount of reservations we have recently received, it is taking us 7-10 business days to process them. Once we have your reservation scheduled, we will send you another email.

Please note the following:

·European Re-Deliveries - We can’t offer a delivery date on these vehicles until they have arrived in Port Jersey and cleared Customs.

·Vehicles in Status 111 – We can’t offer a delivery date on these vehicles until they have moved into Status 112 and are scheduled for production.


European Delivery Customers
Since European Delivery customers receive a vehicle overview when they take delivery of their vehicle in Europe, a vehicle overview will not be given when they take re-delivery at the BMW Performance Center. This allows us to handle the demand for customers who have ordered their vehicle and have not received a vehicle introduction. Please make sure your European Delivery customers are aware of this situation.

I asked for PCD delivery at first. When the date came - it would have been five weeks after dealer delivery - I had to decline, for various reasons.

1. I didn't REALLY want to wait.
2. I couldn't get anyone to go WITH me.
3. It was a really inconvenient time.

So much later seems to be not unusual.

I will probably do this when I buy a new one in a few years, but then I can afford to wait. Being in one BMW does mean that getting into another one is not SUCH a rush..

Yeah I think we'll stick the wait out. Right now the weather is starting to get nicer in MN so I'm usually driving my GT500. Besides my wife and I were/are looking forward to making a fun trip out of it.

PCD does get pretty busy during the summer months and you needed to have ordered the X5 earlier in the year to secure a good spot with minimum wait time.

But unless you ordered an X5M/X6M, I dont think the track portion is worth it for a regular X. I did PCD on my M3 and in that class, there was 4 M3s and 1 X5. The X5 was limited to a small slower inside portion of the track while we were driving around in full speed on the outer portion on the M3.

The X5 offroad portion was fun, but I dont think it's worth the wait time either.

I was watching some of the youtube videos and my understanding is the normal PCD includes a factory tour, off road X5 course, ride-along in M5, 3 series stability control/fish tail demonstration, emergency braking in X5 and then small curvy course with an X5.

That doesn't seem too bad and actually looked like fun. It sounds different then what you did though. I'm going to at least wait and see what my date would be.

Yeah, it's all the above.

The first part of the track time is the Braking Test...but you can do that on any road. Just get to 50mph and slam on the brakes :D

The second part of the track is the wet-driving test in a 3 series. You ride around in a wet circular track. The first time around, the traction control is off and you smash on the gas pedal. Car starts doing 360s...weeee! Second time around, traction control on, gas pedal smash...nothing. Dont know how it relates to driving the X5 though since the 3 series is rear wheel drive.

Third part is driving around the track. This is what I described above.

The factory tour is open year round.

The off road X5 is cool though, and is something you probably wont do to your own X5.


If you could wait another month, then go for it. As I mentioned above, I did PCD with the M3, but skipped it for the X5.

I actually got my confirmation for my PCD delivery on my 2012 X5 today for June 3rd delivery. I was going to order a 2011 and decide to wait for the 2012, since my lease isnt up till June 11th.

Thank you very much for this picture and for the countless questions you've answered. It's been very helpful. So those are 11" rear rims right? Just want to clarify b/c in a message you sent you referenced 11" but in a thread I read you mentioned you thought you would go with 10" square all around.

Any reason why you didn't go with the 10" square?

The White X5 has X6M reps with stagger rims, 10" front, 11" rear but square tire setup, 275s all around

the Red X5 has 214 reps which are staggered 9.5" front and 10.5" rear rims with the same square 275 winter tire.

Went square tire as they are significantly cheaper, better true snow and ice handling and didn't mind the look. Liked the stagger RIM setup though so I didn't get tons of tuck in the back.

X
