Style 336 Replica
There seems to be quite a few auctions now on ebay for 336 replica wheels. Was wondering if anyone has ordered a set of these yet?

Oh wow, thanks for bringing this up. I was so looking for these wheels. Time to negotiate a deal with the seller.
|
Don't like em, looks like girly flowers.

I do not think torontokhan has answered your question either.

They look like the Audi R8 wheels - pretty good looking actually from this angle..
|
I have seen the replicas (almost) like Audi R8's for the X on eBay. I thought they were too shiny for an SAV. But on Audi, they look mean, for sure.

I really like the style 336 with Vermillion Red or Sparkling Bronze.
|
not sure about the quality though..
|
I think the quality on all these replicas are virtually the same. A bit heavy, and little less refined than the originals. But with 80% less in cost, I think one can't go wrong.
|
only look good from certain angles for sure... same with 214.
|
Anyone end up getting them? They are nice.
|
I will be getting them for sure to replace my stock 18s. I'm not too proud to buy replicas when originals are such a rediculous price. Are OEMs made of a Platinum/Gold alloy or something?? How can they justify those prices?
|
Did you end up buying them? I'm about to pull the trigger on a set...I love the look, just wondering about quality and of course making the leap from 18" to 20"

I have the OEM 336s on my X5, and love them. The style is much more modern and distinctive than the 214s.
Makes your x5 look new too, as most of the x5s running around have the 214s on |
I just tried the compatibility thing on this link
and it states it's not compatible with the 2011 X5. What gives? I know that's not right... |
swiped from another thread to assist in asking this...

will a 74.0mm bore still accept a 74.1mm spec rim? |
I have emailed with the seller UAPONE on eBay to confirm the specs and fitment of the replicas he's selling - still the auction compatibility 'thingy' for lack of a better descriptor, doesn't show any 2011 X5 as being compatible...but auction states they are...so if anything goes wrong and they don't fit at least you have recourse with eBay/Paypal to dispute the item.

A while ago I looked at the 336 reps on ebay. The ones posted in the previous link look like they are a little off from the OEMs. They seem to have a more open fork. These ones look a little closer, but I don't know if I like their shadow paint job very much:

^ - The majority of all the fakes look off. The spokes are thinner, and the way they concave into the center isn't as gradual. I wish people would stop putting fake wheels on their cars, regardless of the price difference.

Don't hit a pothole of a curb!! Bye bye wheel and tire!!

Like this? :wow:
Rim turned out fine but the tire took a beating. Gotta love run flats though! This was from two potholes on the highway directly in the driving line under an overpass in the shadows, by the time I saw them there was literally no where to go. |
^ I thought you got rid of those for 214s Trainer?
Those OEMs stayed in 1 piece - right where there's support, luckily. I wonder what reps would do... anyone have actual experiences where a rep actually cracked pretty severely? |
Actually, I never wanted the 214's. I wanted the M wheels and that guy wanted the 214's. So I was looking to swap my 336's for 214's so that the M guy would swap his for mine.. In the end it never happened.
|
Ick...now this is making me rethink wanting 20" tires...maybe I'll go 19's. Idaho isn't known for the best roads.

So I wanted to check what would it mean to switch from OEM 18" (style 209 + Brid. Duelers RFT) to OEM 20" style 336, weight wise. Well guess what:
Altogether, front adds 15.4 lb (+17.4lb wheel, -2 lb tire), rear - 22.7lb (+18.7lb wheel, + 4lb tire) per corner! Switching to 20" non-RFT saves 8..9 pounds, but with 3rd row seats it's hardly an option. I know image is everything, but damn - that's a lot of extra unsprung mass! |

Be careful in your homework when doing 19's Very few vehicles come with 19" options, and as such the rubber is harder to find and rather expensive. In my experience 20" rubber is significantly cheaper then 19's |

Thought some might want to see pics of my replica 20's with Continental DWS's.(and the before pic with 19's). This is on a 2012 50i. I am happy with them. Extended wheel arches were added at the same time as the wheels.

Car porn pics. Man that really looks so much better...where did you get yours from?

Thanks for the comments. I got them from a place called Sorat Wheels in Vancouver, BC (I'm Canadian).
|
Found their website, but din't see those listed.
|
They weren't up when I bought either, so I just thought I'd email to ask if they would be getting them, and they already had them. Good price, good service, I'm happy.
|
I'm so gonna do an X5 LCI of my own by changing to 336s.

No vibrations or shimmy that I've noticed at any speed (up to about 100mph anyway).
No complaints. |

Thanks. |
Thought I'd bump this and see how people are doing on the reps. I actually never bought a set and am looking to do so now and see lots of options on Ebay. Looking for a tire package too.
|
I had the replica's and I wouldn't buy them again. I curbed 2 of the wheels and boy just slight curbage resulted in some really bad scrapes, one wheel had a pretty good chunk taken out of it. Not sure they are as sturdy as they should be.
And finally I could never get the rear tires to balance right; despite multiple tries with different balance machines. I always had vibration starting at about 55 to 60 mph (worse when cold) and lasting up to about 70mph. The wheels looked great and I got lots of compliments, but now I wouldn't go that route again. With some diligent work finding a set of take offs of the OEM ones which should be available on eBay or maybe craigslist. I was gonna get them repaired (the curb damage) and the cost was about $200 for the wheel and considering I paid $800 for the entire set it didn't make sense to fix it; rather wait until I messed up more and then replace the whole mess. In the end OEM would rule out in my book, unless there is another brand that doesn't have the vibration problems that I did. Also, I'm not sure that I'm sold on 20's in a city that has rotten roads. It just got tiring in San Diego and also here in Portland getting beat to death by the ride. |
Thanks. I see the OEM's can be had for ~$2600. Might end up going that route.
|
thinking about getting the set of replicas.
I did notice that the offsets for the ones you find on ebay aren't the same as OEM ones.... ebay: 20x9.5+45 20x10.5+40 oem: 20x10+40 20x11+37 compared to my stock 19s: ebay: front extends 9mm oem: front extends 21mm if I wanted a staggered setup the rears extend 36mm (holy crap) tire weights are interesting too. RFT 19" is 9lbs heavier than a 20" non-RFT.... while a 20" wheel is about 9lbs heavier |
