Back to BMW

As some of you may (or not :) ) remember, I had an 05 X5. After the lease ended I didn't really consider getting an X5 again... until this weekend

Ended up getting a great deal on a 2008 4.8i fully loaded (heads up display, comfort, navi, rear entertainment, active seat, contour seat, sport package, 20in wheels, siruis, hd, heated and cooled front, heated rear, 3rd row, etc..) with 40k miles.

The maintenance program is good till December. I got an extended warranty from the seller (not bmw) which is good until 100k miles with a $100 deductible.

Some questions, can I get the brakes replaced before the program ends? I don't want to spend $1k on brakes (after getting the i drive system to work, it seems I have 12k miles left on them) and get them replaced early?

Loving the car so far, it is much improved over the last generation. My favorite feature has to be the heads up display, which is just soo useful.

Also, what is the switch right next (to the right) of the headlight switch. I couldn't find it in the manual and I have no idea what it does. Also, any recommendations for weather mats? My local BMW dealership has them for $100. I was also looking at Weathertech mats.

I also need new tires for the 20" wheels. I looked online (tirerack, costco, sams club) but no one has the front tires in stock. I need all season tires

Glad to be back on the forum.

If I'm not mistaken, that switch you are referring to is for the heated steering wheel (to the right of the headlight switch), and to the left is for the fog lights.

No it's to turn off the Heads Up Display

Yeah the steering wheel heater switch is actually on the steering wheel. That seems right that it is the HUD on/off, although that can also be done through idrive.

.

Sure, just drive around with the brakes on, medium hard, for a few thoudand miles- when the pads wear down to the sensors, bring it in.

But WHY would you pay $1000 for brakes??

BMW rotors are 145 each, a set of pads about 150. So for $500 (including shipping) and an hour's time it is easily done. Even paying a decent indy 2 hours it isnt 1000.

Enjoy-

A
