My suspension, is this normal?

My 2007 e70 rear suspension would sink down after a couple of hours parked. However right when I press the unlock button and open my door, the suspension would go back to normal and makes a buzzing noise. Once it levels itself and the buzzing sounds stop it looks normal again. Should I go to the dealership and tell them about this? Or is this normal. It only does this when it's parked, the only thing that sucks is when I'm in a hurry I have to wait for the suspension to raise up or else I will bounce everywhere on the road. So what do you guys think happened?

leak in the airline somewhere.

So should I go up to the dealer and tell them that?

Yes. Especially if you're under warranty

Sounds like you have 3rd row seats because I have the self-leveling rear suspension as well. Mine will make a hissing noise when I go to open the door (using Comfort Access) but it doesn't really adjust that much (at least not like you are describing).

Yes, you have the auto levelling suspension based on what you are describing. It should not completely deflate like that when parked. Mine doesn't do that.

Yes I do have 3rd row seating. This issue started 2 weeks ago and great thing I purchased the extended warranty. Ok thanks guys.

I have the hiss as well but don't have 3rd row / auto-leveling suspension. Think that's somewhat normal for all E70s.

Interesting I would have thought it was only for those with the 3rd row option.

I know that hissing noise you guys are talking about, but now that noise is gone now. It is followed by a buzzing noise and I could actually see my car being elevated. But I'm taking it in on friday so we'll see.

I know it looks pretty sick. If the front end would be the same height as the rear, I'd prob wouldn't even create this thread lol. It's about 6 inches lower than normal when the car is off.

It was fixed under warranty, indeed it was a blown shocks.

Interesting.

I thought the hiss after unlocking the truck, and before starting it, was normal? I typically hit the unlock button about 10 feet away and as I'm about to open the door, I hear a hiss for maybe 1.5-2 seconds but never notice any real elevation change. I've tried watching it but never was able to see movement.

Also, it doesn't happen every time, just sometimes, like after the truck sat overnight.

Anyways, is this normal? My truck is going into the dealer on Tuesday, since my factory warranty ends 8/15...so I'd like to get this taken care of now. Or does CPO cover this?

It's normal for hiss, however giant changes like mine was not normal. CPO will cover it as well, however you will pay a $50 deductible.

Just to warn you...I had a CPO 2005 4.8is. I had the same issue with leaking airbags. My dealer fixed it but said that they had to go to BMWNA for approval because it actually wasn't covered under the CPO warranty. Since then, I had a faulty front ride sensor and master control unit. Those were fixed under CPO warranty but at that point it was time to say goodbye to the car :(
Fixing anything with the auto levelling suspension is not cheap. And also not guaranteed to be fixed on the first attempt.
jeremym, if your warranty expires 8/15 have them examine EVERYTHING associated with the suspension and keep all documentation so they are libel if things go south after 8/15.
Now I have the 07 4.8i and I watch for that levlling on start-up out of habit :D
Just my 2C.

Wow good to know, dealership greed is normal I guess.

jeremym 07-23-2011 12:30 AM

Interesting. Its actually going in on Tuesday for squeeking suspension so i will mention the hiss and have them check it out as well. My SA, last time I was there, told me they would check everything over before my warranty ran out...so hopefully I don't have any issues. Thanks!
