Need advice on a new X5!
My wife and I are in the market for a new diesel X5. I have been looking at mainly used 2009 and 2010 X5's but there is a new one (2011) in the area that I might be able to get an excellent price on. The issue is the options. Typically I like my cars fully optioned but this one isn't. Here is what it has:
Premium Package Rear Climate Package Technology Package Roof Rails Heated Front Seats Satellite Radio Ipod/USB adapter Is there anything this car doesn't have that you guys think is an absolute deal killer? The vehicle is for my wife so I don't think Sport Package really matters. We do go skiing a lot so the lack of Cold Weather package is unfortunate but really not that big of a deal. I think I can get the vehicle for $500-$1000 over invoice plus the $3500 ECO Credit plus the $1800 Tax rebate. What do you guys think? |

$1800 rebate ended last year.
|
I think you are right. Still might make sense with the ECO Credit.

That's a decent deal. Most of us are getting around that for a new x5d. So I wouldn't say it's a great deal.
The one thing that I would want is the comfort access. But it's decently equipped and if you want new I say go for it. It's a fantastic truck. |
You can quite easily order a 2011 diesel or 2012 gasoline x5 for 500-1000 over invoice so why not order it with the exact options you'd like?
|
I agree, this in my opinion is no time for compromise. Get the color combination you want. After having comfort seats, I can tell you a BMW without them is a deal killer for me. Also, living in New England, the lack of the Cold Weather Package would also be a deal killer. No need to compromise, get the options you want.
|
Thanks for the input guys! I will speak with my sales advisor about this and see what kind of deal we can work out. I have the comfort seats in my current X5 and they are spectacular I agree.
The 500-1000 over invoice is what I wanted to hear! I wasn't sure that was the case...and in fact might not be in Southern California. |
no cold weather pkg and no comfort access. the hud is also a nice option
|
All great advice. We might have a little one coming soon so I think comfort access is a definite yes. I have it on my m5 and love it. Might just make sense to bite the bullet and go get exactly what we want at the dealer.
Quick question the sport package doesn't seem to offer much for the price. Thoughts? |
Sport package was a must for me...it's the little things...anthracite headliner, black exterior trim, extended wheel arches, no cost 20's, sport steering wheel...
|
Wish I could have found $500 or $1,000 over invoice. Best I can come up with is $1,700 over invoice. Can't order as I need to find an in stock x35D this week. Settled on one in Colorado. But they are out there for sure. I don't need navigation so Tech Package isn't a draw. I wanted the heated seats/steering wheel though as my current X has them. Comfort access is great...and look for one that has the new connected drive which was added in March 2011 if memory serves me.

I just cannot spend $60k and not get precisely what I want... and def agree on the heated seats! |
I was at Steven's Creek BMW (San Jose) today and they have a nice silver X535d sitting on the lot! Has premium, sport, tech, 214 wheels, but no adaptive drive. Looks very nice. Has 65k sticker. I was surprised to see it on the lot. However, I did not look close enough to see if it was one with the new LED coronas......

I spoke with one dealer locally and they committed to $1500 over invoice (although the salesman said they'll do $1k over to close the deal). The second dealer is working on it and think they can be at $500 over invoice. We'll see. Right now I am looking at the following setup: Plat Grey Exterior Cinnamon Interior Tech Package Prem Sound Prem Package Cold Weather Rear Climate Sport Package (maybe not) Multi-Contour Seats Comfort Access Running Boards Roof Rails Not sold on the sport package. It is nice but doesn't seem worth it for $2k. |

In fact, given that you haven't actually seen the vehicle, say that it is "in the area", and it is the same color (and it seems to have the same options), perhaps it MAY even be the same one that we are talking about. You could just call Steven's Creek and deal with them directly..... |

Sport pack… straight up needs it… maybe your not a "performance" kind of person… but definitely makes the car look more aggressive.

I tried to work with Stevens Creek - they are a large dealer and they have a large inventory, which generally means too much inventory.. They returned my call once. When, apparently, they found out they didn't have exactly what I wanted, no more return calls. The folks at our headquarters (Sunnyvale) say they avoid BMW because of Stevens Creek. Prefer Mercedes or Porsche because of friendlier dealers. It doesn't seem to be geographical, either. We have two BMW dealers here (Leith BMW and Performance BMW) and I tried both. I went with Leith because they were much more friendly and much more eager to earn my business (including giving me quite a bit more on my trade than it was probably worth). Performance was only interested in selling me something I didn't want (and wouldn't make a deal on what they had on their lot). YMMV. At Stevens Creek, I got the impression that they couldn't be bothered. Back in the ".com days" we had the same thing here in Cary. The Porsche dealership in particular, was the worst. Sales guy told me "we don't need you. we have more business than we know what to do with!" while trying to sell me a car. They don't say that these days. |
Ukwildcat, curious what company you work for. The company I work for is based in Sunnyvale as well with a large facility in RTP NC. I'm in the new England office.

I ordered mine from Mountain View. Peter Pan (San Mateo) had no more 2011 builds available and Stevens Creek would not negotiate. I ordered exactly what I wanted from Mountain View and ABSOLUTELY LOVE the truck!
|
I have an X5 premium on order as well from BMW of Mountain View. I originally went to Stevens Creek and they offered to give me $500 below MSRP as a "courtesy to me". They were polite and I was polite in letting them know "no deal". I tried BMW of Mountain View we quickly agreed on $1500 over invoice total including $400 MACO and $200 training. Talk to Hamid at BMW of Mountain View. He is a great guy to work with. I pick up the car in about 2 weeks :D

The worst part of buying a new car is...well buying a new car. I love the attitude that they are "helping" you. Several of the dealers I went to would promise X/Y/Z only to come back with some kind of crappy deal and then say "you won't find a better deal! These X5's are flying off the shelves!!!". I ended up ordering my car from BMW of Encinitas for $1250 over invoice including MACO/Training. They were polite, didn't b-sh*t me around and made the deal quickly. Second X5 I have bought from them...
