BMW Apps Retrofit

Has anyone done the BMW Apps retrofit yet?

I read on one of these boards, a guy did a complete retrofit of the dvd based system to HD based and purchased the combo box controller and had a guy program it all. I guess the BMW assist will not work and there might be some issues at the dealership since he has a 2012 software load on a older X5
