Inner Tail Lights Removal
Can someone give me some pointers as to how to remove the inner tail lights? I bought the LCI tails to replace the pre-LCI ones. From just looking at he inner panel of the trunk lid, , I only see two screws where the inner trunk lid handels are. Really appreciate any help. Thank you!

Ultimately, you're going the be prying the whole panel off. It's held on by 4 clips I think. After you get that panel off, remove the nuts holding the lights in, then carefully push the assembly out from inside the liftgate. There's probably caulking around the edges so you're going to be pushing quite a bit before it gives way.

Can you clarify on the followng: 1. where do you start to pry off the whole panel? Assuming number 3 in the 1st picture is what you're refering to, can you tell me where the clips are? 2. Looking at the inner tails, I cannot seem find where the nuts go the in lights. Can you tell me where it is on the 2nd pic? Thank you!! |

2) A tensioner is used to hold teh light in. Look at the top right in your picture and you well see a small nut. It will be a little more clear when you remove teh panel and get access to teh old lights. |
marshotel, I managed to get the bottom clips/plugs pulled out of the trunk lid, but i'm having trouble figuring out how to get the upper half off the trunk lid. is the mechanism different?

i FINALLY got the inside liner out! i'm sure because i'm stupid, but this mod took me a good 3.5 hours!! I love the darker lens on the LCI tails! They are essentially smoked tail lights compared to pre-LCIs.
The original inner tails were held by a very sticky black caulk with only foam on the top side. The LCI tails is pure foam. Like Marshotel once said, everything works, however the dash has an error (exclamation mark) and upon engine startup, the NAV says right tail malfunction. I'll schedule an appointment with the dealer when I get a chance for coding. Thank you all that pitched in!! pic1: LCI pic2: pre-LCI |
