I would go X5M but i dont feel spending a great deal on this switch. I am also waiting for the new M5 and will wait a year for market to get in reach.

I went from a CL500 AMG pack to a xdrive48i back in 2008. No regrets... Just make sure it has the sport pack.

I like the X5, but I loved the M3... SMG and all the goodies, plus CSL trunk and diffuser. YouTube - ‪E46 M3 Bastuck Exhaust‬‏

I have a E92 M3 now but I rarely drive it due to work and practicality so when it came to getting a SUV, X5 was the only choice. It doesn't have that big SUV feel to it, drives like a sedan, if you opt for Adaptive Drive which I highly recommend, I don't think there is any other SUV that handles like it. The 2011/2012 models without the M package have the best look so far for the X5 IMO. I actually did not get the M package because I liked the stock look!

At the end of the day though, X5 or X5M will NOT be a replacement for M3 or M5/6. Different needs, different cars....this was tough for me to accept since when I did test drives on these cars I was disappointed, but then I realized that I can't compare them to my M, but rather to my daily driver which is currently a Pathfinder.

So now I have given up my need for a sports car which I didn't drive anyways but ultimately I would own a X5 for daily and a nice M for weekend...

Go for both if you can afford it!!!! :yikes:

Yes, (see sig)
Get the vehicle thats appropriate for your needs. (and wants if you can afford to keep both)

I had a e46 M3.....currently driving a '11 X5 35d....its a great daily driver, but not a sporty car...of course having a prancing horse in the garage takes care of that....

I didnt change my m3 for the x5 but when I had both I felt like my needs to "burn" began to shrink. I live in a country were I can get a maximum from my m3 but after I got x5 (35d) i almost stopped driving m3. The acceleration and top speed are ofcourse slower but handling is extremly good and the higher driving position is very good thing too. They cannot replace each other its obvious but in my case I just settled for x5 flexibility. Its not a sport car but it is a very very fun car to drive on an every day basis.

Just days ago I sold my m3 and I dont feel like buying another one in the near future, maybe I ll buy bmw bike just to have it in my garage... I guess I would stiil be considered petrolhead like my friends always thought :).

I went from the e53 to a e60 M5, but I could not part with my X so I kept her.
The X does not get driven too much any more...:zoom:
