diesel X5 input needed!

im considering buying a new diesel X5. any horror stories? what is the actual fuel mileage?

23,000 miles to date.....average 15 mpg......city, winter fuel, some short trips.......doing the same with my 2000 Yukon XL, I was just under 15 Mpg.

I took a day trip from Boston to New York last week......72 MPH on cruise......29 MPG for 475 miles.....

No problems whatsoever on anything on the X5

My lows have been 22 and high MPG 26 - that is with 2,100 miles on the clock. I think it'll get better.

I would upgrade to at least a 19" tire option as the standard 18's aren't that great. If you order get the iPod/USB adapter and Smartphone integration if you have a smartphone and want all the features or a possible iPhone 4 cradle. So far I've not had issues except with a turn signal bulb which turned into having my entire headlight assemblies replaced. I'm sure others will weigh in.

Otherwise I like the car - don't think it's nearly as sporty as my 2004 X5 4.4i tho. Hopefully my 35d will be more reliable!

Except for the fact that LED coronas became standard equipment less than 2 weeks after I took delivery :angryfire.......I absolutely love it. The car is far superior to my 2010 30. I am getting about 20 - 21 around town and 28-29 on the highway.

38k on a 2010. I carry probably 150 lbs of stuff in the back plus me and I'm a big boy-24.5 mpg pretty consistently

Had my 2011 35d for exactly one year now. Have 17,000 on it. Absolutely no problems. It is going in for it's first service on June 24th for regular service... I am getting 26MPG combined consistantly!!!

In a nutshell, my pop's 2010:

What's great:
  1. Low fuel consumption figures paired with very strong power. No compromises here.
  2. It's a big truck, lots of room.
  3. Starts up in heat, cold, first time, every time. Great heater in the winter too.
  4. Great, plush ride with the smaller wheels. Good if you live in the Northeast.
What's not:
  1. Like most European diesels, it runs best in high-cetane diesel, 47+. That's hard, if not impossible to find in some places. So knowing that the car isn't reaching its max potential is annoying.
  2. It's a big truck, drives like one. Adaptive Drive is clever and flattens most of the roll, but the mass is still there.
  3. The interior just doesn't impress in luxuriousness. Squeaks and rattles.
  4. My dad's isn't that reliable. Airbag errors, rattles, wind noise, flat battery. He's swearing off American cars (again). That's him talking, not me. That said, it is fun to poke at all the preventative measures he takes to avoid another dead battery.

4500 miles on my 2011 35d. Usually about 18-20mpg in the city, LA traffic. Highway is usually about 26mpg, many times 30mpg. For the size and weight of this truck, the mpg is awesome.

Seems to be many more squeaks and rattles in the E70, compared to a 3, 5 or 7 Series (and I've had many of each). I can tell a USA built BMW, over a German made BMW. Remember BMWs built in the USA, must use a certain percentage of American sourced parts (it's part of the factory in the USA agreement with BMW and BMWNA and Carolina).

Overall, the X5 is a very safe and capable SUV.

2500 miles on mine, almost 3 months old. ZERO complains, no issues.

MPG combined is 22 but I work from home and basically drive short trips around my home town. I will take it for a long 4 hour highway drive next week and will report on MPG then.

I love the truck, wouldn't want to drive anything else.
