Day time running light malfunction
 

that's what the computer showed yesterday while driving.
has anyone experience this before?
outside temperature read 104F on dash. maybe these aftermarket ae leds couldn't handle the high temperature?

anyone have any ideas?
by the way, i check this morning, and they are working normal.

that sucks, just got a msg from my brother, right side AE is out.
guess i'll have to put the factory ones back on and see if there are any issues afterwards.:confused:

Not sure about your aftermarket AE, but the following was recently added to the LUX site:

Information regarding high temperature days
The LUX H8 V3 power supply has been specially designed to incorporate a temperature sensor. On very hot days the inside of the headlight compartment may reach very high temperatures, and the LUX power supply has been designed to turn off if the temperature reaches 100 degrees Celsius. This thermal cutoff is designed to protect the LUX and prevent damages to occur due to heat.

Interesting...somehow BMW, in their bumbling, has managed to engineer a power supply that can exceed 100F.

Sarcasm aside, it seems like this is a known design defect (aka 'feature') in that the LUX cannot operate in what is commonly used as the operating temp range (ie -40c/-40F up to 125F)....

This 100F spec is simply unacceptable for a real automotive product.

OP, I had the same problem with mine. (I have the same ones you have). Some times it would be off and some times it would flicker on and off giving me the message like crazy. I switch them around, same thing, took it out and replaced with the oem H8 and it worked fine, so that's when I realize its the LED H8 that went bad and not the socket of the car. So I ordered another set and its all good now, but for a week I had the weird but head turning yellow and white angels. :D

Ok, appreciate the responses. On a side note, i dont think is related but last week, my 8000k HID bulb 'burnt out', only the right one went off, i swap back the oem and everything works fine now, but decided to put an order for 10k. The guy that takes care of everything told me it might have been the quality of the bulbs that caused it to burn out. had the same brand on the E53 for like 2 yrs w/o any problems what so ever. hope everything goes back to normal.
