Anyone ever downgraded wheel size?
 

Hey everyone I know when it comes to modding the majority of people like to increase the size of their wheels..

has anyone ever done the opposite and downgraded them in size in order to get bigger rubber ie: true off road look and use?

So far I have only ever seen one example which is the hartge off road x5..

I do like that look.. something to consider for winter wheels? Any idea what they are or what size?

Nice video. Those wheels actually don't look too small to me, maybe 18" or so? I'd think you'd want to a couple inches smaller for offroad use, not that the X5 is really an offroad vehicle.

I used to go mud driving with my E53 (18" wheels). One time I got so much mud jammed into it that I thought I had damaged the front end. After my session with the pressure washer in the wheel wells, my front end shimmied on the highway. After I got home we put it up on the ramps and found even more mud jammed into one of my struts!

Both of my mud driving locales have since been filled in with houses. Bummer. It was great off roading in what I called 'my living room'.

I laugh at someone buying a $50-$80k+ vehicle to go "offroading" with it. That's not even offroading, in the real sense of the hobby. That's driving through some mud, puddles and over some sticks.

These trucks are not meant for offroading. Period.

Offroading, to me, is a lift, bigger and wider tires, lighter vehicle, paint that can scratch without costing thousands to fix, full time 4-wheel drive (high and low), maybe some lockers and a winch.

Taking an SUV that is full time AWD for limited slippage in bad road conditions so soccer moms can feel safe off the road is just dumb. Granted, this is my opinion but...really? Go spend $5k on a mid-90's jeep, toss some 33"s on it, lift it a few inches and enjoy offroading MUCH more than with an X5.

In other words, I hope you're not going to take your X offroad, OP.

I do agree with you on that..I was never intending to take it "true off roading" more so from a looks point of view, and also for a winter setup.

I do a lot of road trips and snow trips so was curious about a bit of comfort in smaller wheels and fatter rubber.

This thread was also about a bit of curiosity about what others had done in the past. :thumbup:
