Does the E70 take some time to boot systems?

I know weird question. But when I start up my 2008 E70, it seems like the internal systems are booting for several seconds while I first start rolling along. For example, the radio volume might be unresponsive, and radio station might not change when idrive dial is turned, etc. Once a few secs have gone by (maybe 10-12 secs), everything works fine.

Is this normal?

Do you have comfort access? I find that if you do, you're basically waiting for things to boot up (like the BMW logo just comes on) and after a few seconds you get the Accept message. As opposed to unlocking from a distance and taking maybe 15 seconds to where you actually put the key in and push the start button. When you hit that unlock 15 seconds ago, it seems like it started the "boot" already.

I haven't had a delay in radio though, but generally it does take longer than if you use the key.

No - I don't have comfort access. So the bootup is normal? Pretty annoying.

I had the same problem on my 2009 X5. Was very annoying.

So is this just an issue with 08-09 X5s? Not an issue with the newer models?

I know exactly what you are talking about. It's slightly annoying but you know what annoys me worse? The delay in the backup camera turning on. DRIVES ME NUTS!

Oh yeah - totally agree. At least the sensors kick in before the camera does.

Yeah, that's the old iDrive system - it was pretty painful. It'll start booting once you hit unlock on your key - so the sooner you can do that, the better.

Sadly - normal for pre-CIC ("new iDrive") cars tho.

What year is your X5? The older DVD based Nav Drives always take a long time to boot up. Every BMW that I have owned or been in had this issue. My past 2011 and the current 2012 is extreamly fast. I can actually jump in and put the car in reverse and the backup camera actually works.

There is one other thing which I have found that slows the BMW Idrive boot. If you have your BT enabled and sync's with your phone, the idrive will take much longer to boot up. The BMW's BT stack may not have been implemented the best and does cause issues.

Its a 2008, and it is DVD based. I've noticed the length of time the phone connection takes. If it were easier to turn the BT on and off, I'd probably go ahead and do that, but I don't want to have to dig through menus everytime I need to use my phone.
