Rear E70 Window Screen Install?

I noticed getbmwparts.com has this available and was wondering if anyone actually has installed it?
My X5 came with the side window screens, wonder why the rear was not also included as in my E90.

Rear sunshades come with the rear climate package I believe, or possibly it's been moved into the convenience package for 2012.

I thought I'd miss it since I had them on my E53, but I got 20% rear tint on top of the privacy glass which has proven to be super-effective at cutting glare and heat.

I got the side shades, but I was told the rear was not available, then I saw them on at getbmwparts.com for sale. :dunno:

can anybody post a picture of the rear shade ? I never seen one.
is it motorized, or manual like on the rear doors ?

I have 30% tint on the rear, and it does wonders keeping the car cool and for extra privacy, but the shades would be nice as an option.

No, its not electrical, nor manual. It just clips to the back of the rear window, along with the side panels.

It does match the rear manual shades though.

I have it for my dog, and seems to keep it cool back there. Adds additional privacy, and overall looks (imo) pretty good.

Was one of the first things I did with the car. I had the rear sunshade in my m3 and missed it in the x5.

I bought the same set of shades for my X5 after I saw apw2607"s original post two years ago! They make the factory tint seem a little darker, I like them!

Thanks apw2607!

Did it myself....very easy. There's three sticky things that you stick to the inside of the rear window. The shade snaps right in. The two shades on the side (in the rear cargo area) just snap in, nothing to stick to the windows.

How does it look at night? I'm scared that with the crappy back up video cam and the privacy rear window + the window screen, the back window will be too dark to see through at night.

It's not too dark, you can still see out of the rear window at night.

Is it possible to order just the rear window and the 3rd row seat windows?
Did you order the whole kit?

Is that for just the rear window? What about the 3rd row ones?
How much did you get them for?
I was quoted 244 for the whole kit, which I dont need, because mine came with the rear passengers ones, thanks again.

Again, we are talking about the small 3rd row windows. There is no ability to open those. So these shades just snap into the window frame.

That part # is for the 3rd row smaller window and the rear window only.

There is a separate part number for the passenger windows, but like you I didn't need those, since my car had the factory rear window blinds.

stockguru 07-11-2011 01:16 PM

Has anyone seen or tried the one for front passengers? It supposedly covers 2/3 of the front passenger, keeping the rear view mirror area uncovered.

two-five boy 07-11-2011 04:26 PM

Does anyone know the part# for the rear passenger side window screens? I can't find it on tischer's site.

Thanks again. 244 a good deal for them?

Yes, you can open them with the shades closed. :D

two-five boy 07-13-2011 04:47 PM

Can someone be kind enough to take a few detailed pics of how the passenger side window shades are mounted? I recall other models have a slit within the door frame where the shade is pulled out from, is that the case for the X5?

I just ordered mine a couple days ago, I can post pics one I get them and install them.

stockguru 07-18-2011 11:48 AM

Just ordered this and installed. Love it. Though, I think $300 is a bit much for shades.

XCUSM5 07-18-2011 12:30 PM

^ any pics? :)

ZuerstBMW 07-25-2011 08:28 PM

Just got mine today, but havent installed yet.
There are clips that double stick to window, then the shades clip into the clips.

mwy23 08-24-2011 01:05 PM

Bumping for an update. :) Also, would it be possible for you guys to share where you ordered from? Thanks!

stockguru 08-24-2011 04:53 PM

Got mine from getbmwparts.com
