My E70 4.8i Trade-in options.

Felllow Enthusiasts:

Currently ,we (my Wife) drive an 07 4.8i, Space-Gray, with all available options to include the 3rd row seat. The 50K warranty is about to expire in the next month or so. While servicing it at the dealer, one of the reps offered to do an exaluation on the vehicle in order to see what they would give me, in case I wanted to sell it, or trade it in. After this, he gave me a sheet that stated that I can use 32K towards as a check for CASH, or as a trade in for any vehicle in the lot. He mentioned that he doesn't see many X5's with all the options I have, and 3rd row seats being traded in, and that mine was in great condition. This was tempting. I told him that I would think about it. I would prefer about 36-37K for it.

One of the main reasons we got this X70 was because of the 3rd row seat option. With an 8 y/o, and having the vehicle fro a little over 6 months we've only used the 3rd row seat maybe twice. Right now, I'm not seeing the added comfort that this option has offered. We love the space, and luxury this vehicle provides.

Our concern for trading it in is mainly because of the expiration of the New Vehicle Warranty. We would like the piece of mind that comes with having it.

He called me this week asking if I had the time to look over the vehicle options they had in the lot. I mentioned a Diesel X5, but they won't get those in anytime soon. We exchanged pleasantries and I told him that I'll keep him posted...

FFWD a few days (Today)..

I browse their dealers inventory and find an 08 with 44K miles, CPO 4.8i Sport, Black/Black with all the same options as mine except the 3rd row seat for about 41K. I recall seeing this one at the dealers when I brought mine in for the key programming in December (6 months ago).

Right now, I owe around 20K for my vehicle at about 6% (I think) APR through USAA.

I feel O.K. with the lack of 3rd row, and having a newer vehicle, with a Warranty and a lower Interest rate through BMW Financial. This might make up for an extra 4 - 5 Grand on the premium of the vehicle.

WHAT WOULD Xoutpost DO?

Thanks in advance..

That just doesnt make sense to me. Youre gonna trade in your vehicle that you know for one you dont.. plus you'll only have 6k miles and another year till that warranty expires..

you could extend your warranty for another 2 years (yeah its not the same coverage, but whatever) So youre gonna pay another 9 grand for 1 year and 6k mile original warranty extra on a car you dont know? And so what with a lower interest rate? Then sell your X5 right out on cars.com and get more cash for it, put that money towards a 2010 or 2011 so you get that extra amount of time on the warranty. is that money really worth another year and ONLY 6k miles, that'll last you half a year max! And i see that it is CPO already, wouldnt it be cheaper to just extend your warranty on yours now?

Extend your warranty for 2k, keep it another two years and move onto a newer X5..

Thanks..

I thought CPO was 6 years/100K more.

I might be able to break even depending on the finance options offered by BMW..

Hmmmmm...

Couldn't have said it any better than Naz. Unless you are stepping into something new it wouldn't make any sense. Good luck :)

OMG.

Just get a BMW gold or platinum warranty on the car you currently have!!!

Cost $3500-6000

Peace of mind since that is valuable to you....

Thanks Naz! You enlightened me pretty well.

We'll keep the current X70. We know it, and with my pending Military retirement in 1 year and 8 months, money is gonna be tight. Plus, I might want to trade it in then, for a newer X5 D.

You guys are awesome!
