What are those rubber flaps in front of the front tires called?
Apologies if this has already been discussed. I did some searching and couldn't find an answer to my question. I have an X35d with about 13k miles on it and both of the little rubber flaps that hang down in front of the front tires have pretty much sheered off where the rubber flap meets the plastic bracket that holds them in place. I'm pretty sure I haven't run them into any curbs. They just seemed to be poorly designed and wear out quickly.
I'd like to order replacements and install them but for the life of me can't figure out what they are called or what the part # is. Anyone know? -Nate |
Do you mean the mud flaps/guards? If yes then there's some talk about them here: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...mud-flaps.html

No, I didn't mean the mud guards. I said in front of the tires, not behind. The rubber flaps are about 6 inches wide and hing down 3 inches.

I think it is an air/rain deflector to reduce noise...
Part number 14 perhaps? RealOEM.com * BMW E70N X5 35iX Underfloor coating Retrofit, M aerodynamic kit. Fits: X5 | BMW of South Atlanta Even with a picture of the part on YOUR car, the problem is there is no decent BMW picture/descriptor.... |
I think he means the diverter/splitter underneath the brake duct. It might be part of the front wheel arch liner piece and not a separate item.

Part Nr:
51 77 7 161 743 (left) 51 77 7 161 744 (right) You will also need to buy a few expanding rivets, since it's likely you'll mutilate the old ones getting them out. 07 11 9 905 507 I replaced a similar part for the rear wheels in my X3 when they simply became torn/ragged/hanging on by a thread after years of use. Expect them to cost around $10-14 each. |
Also part # 51 75 7 188 839 (for L side) in the BMW US Parts software at your local BMW dealer. It is officially called a Pressure Lip Seal. This is for a 2011 X5 5.0i, I would imagine it would be the same part # for other models of that year.

Shouldn't that be covered by the warranty (and be dealer/service advisor's concern)?
