Not enough rubber?
 

I have recently become bored and my x5 has looked rather pedestrian the past year as by now everyone on earth drives one, because it is such as awesome ride no doubt! Anyways as I mentioned before I wanted to go with some 215's but at the end of the day I don't want 6,000 dollar wheels on a leased vehicle. Particularly because on occasion I trade with my mom to steal her convertible:D and she is not as careful around curbs etc...

This has led me to move towards some Beyern mesh. I am considering 22 by 9.5 front and 11 rear. The guy I am dealing with, some wheel dealer on ebay in california, claims I can run this: The Pirelli tires will be 265/35/22 front and 295/30/22 rear. Does this sounds ok? My concerns are rubbing, the x drive and staggered fitment, not enough rubber?

I am no fool. I know the ride will be firm. I have had low profiles before. He is asking 2990 with bmw tpms. I have also considered just running 9.5's all around. Well that is a lot of random questions! Feel free to answer or give opinion on any of them.

The sizes will work for the rim sizes but are not going to be as wide as the factory 20's or 21's. The 295/30/22's are only 11.9" section width, the factory 20's and 21's are both 13" wide. I would go 21's with 335/30/21's for the wider tire over rim diameter, but your 22's should have no rubbing issues if you get the offset correct as they are narrower than factory setups.

Here in Dallas there are X5s around but only like 1% of those have the 20"s--which makes those unique in themselves and I don't feel like I need to go for a more aggressive look. I'm really surprised up north that many people have the 20"s considering the climate--or maybe you just want something even more aggressive looking. I mean the 315/35/20 rears aren't even something you find on a Corvette much less an SUV.

For me the issue isn't 'firm'... it is the lack of sidewall which reduces the contact patch compliance and gives crappy handling.

My experience is tires should be 285/30/22 and 335/25/22. That's what was on my business partners 22" Hartge's.

Front
10.5x22 offset 33 wrapped in 285/30/22 Continental Extreme Contact DWS

Rear
12x22 offset 25 wrapped in 335/25/22 Continental Extreme Contact DWS

5mm spacers up front and 15mm in rear. I'm sure offset and spacers will effect what you can fit reasonably, but most people running 22"s seem to be running this size.

His ride was rough, but it was also due to lowering springs and links........after driving both his and mine (214's and stock Sport/Adaptive suspension) in high speed truns both felt about the same...his was too rough for all of us over the normal daily roads.

I swear even with the LCIs people have the most common looking E70s, 19" wheels max - this just doesn't fit the vehicle aesthetically (yes I know that's not most important). Maybe 1 in 20 do something with it. Hell I think I've only seen 3 E70s with aerokits in person, ever.
