New-To-Me E70!

Hey guyssssss!

I'm officially the owner of an E70!

I picked up Ron's (Thunder22) at his lease turn-in yesterday. It's a 2008 3.0si black on black. I have several cosmetic mods planned, but the #1 on my list is new wheels!

I'm leaning toward style 214's, but want to make sure they're definitely what I want.

POST PICTURES OF YOUR WHEELS PLEASE! :D

(I apologize in advance if this thread exists... I haven't spent much time in the E70 forum!)

Naz24 08-07-2011 10:34 PM

Congrats on the purchase! Glad to see you got it from an enthusiast.

Why not get the 128s? I think those are the best. Or there are X6M wheels for sale in the classifieds.., not positive on the fitment

blondboinsd 08-07-2011 11:02 PM

Hey M! The 214's need special wheel arches I believe so I would double check before installing. Also from what I have heard the large RFT's are prone to picking up nails and or puncturing easy. I have the Y Spoke 211's and I really like them. They have smaller tires (which I'm going to swap out for non RFT's when the time comes to replace them) and I love the look. 209, 210, 212 all look the same to me. Do you have Sport?

Michelle 08-07-2011 11:03 PM

 I completely forgot about 128's! I loveeeee them!

I like those! How much will it cost to swap out the front/rear skirts for the larger wheels?

I'd definitely get the fender flares with the larger wheels.

I do not think I'll be putting RFTs on the new wheels. This X has a spare tire.

I vote 128s, aero kit, and a detail job from phil :)

Yes he sure is. I've had the pleasure of him detailing my E53 twice.

My vote for the 215's

Weasel 08-08-2011 07:41 PM

The 128's are familiar to the 87's we all love so much on the E53's... Damn I need to put mine back on!!!!!!

XCUSM5 08-08-2011 07:46 PM

Love the 215s over all of them but 214s are very nice, understated, and only 20s so it's a good all around choice.

BTW I put 20s on the 35d and loving it. Went with normal tires. Upgraded from stock 18s on RFTs. Love the steering and handling even more now. The ride is not rough at all, almost the same. No sport and no self-leveling.

I put 20's on my E53 and didn't notice any difference. I'm not liking the feel of the RFT's on the E70, and will not be putting them on the 20's I get... whichever style that may be. :)

FSETH 08-08-2011 09:17 PM

Congrats onthe new ride. I like the 128's as well as the original sport package Y-spokes (not sure of the #)

Michelle 08-09-2011 09:54 PM

I'm definitely wanting the 128's now.

Any idea what a staggered set of 20s will run me?

Michelle,

Congrats on the new ride. The 128s are 21" wheels and be very pricey unless found used. Also, tires in that size are $$...

As for 20" wheels, style 214s or X6Ms look awesome (no biased at all having both as winter wheels)

If you want reps to save some $$ check out Ray at Wheel Tech Tuning, he took good care of me and has many options for X5s. You can get a custom quote for combo packages wheels/tires/tpms just by emailing him. $1695 for 214s, wheels and tires + $225 shipping...

Thanks, Ray.

I'm still not 100% sold on the 214's. Nothing is hittin' me like the 87's did on the E53. :(

It's Mike, not Ray ;)

I am not trying to hock wheels on the board, I was just very happy with Ray's service and got two sets of winter wheels from him so I am just letting others know since many people are looking for new wheels for their X, especially winter setups. I used Ray because of a recommendation from some else who had used him, I thought I would continue the favor. Better to buy from someone who people have had good results from rather than taking a chance on an unknown...

X (Mike, not Ray )

HAHA... no no... I wasn't dissin' you or your wheel guy. Just frustrated that I can't find wheels I'm in love with. I really appreciate your help, as that's exactly what I'll be needing once I decide which wheel I want.

Have you looked at the 300M rims (OEM for x6M). I run a 20" version (replicas) as my winter set with Pirelli Scorpions. I love the look and it's a nice change of pace from my summer 214s...

Michelle 09-25-2011 05:56 PM

I finally got around to taking a picture of both of my X's today.

Very nice are you keeping the E53?

Michelle 11-05-2011 09:57 AM

Thanks :)

No, but yes, but NO! LOL

I still have the E53... I cannot bring myself to get it ready to sell. But I NEED to sell it... it's been exactly 3 months since I got the E70!

With the high millage it probably is not worth that much ( I bet it still looks and drives great ) why not keep it. Your sister might want it instead of the Volvo or other members of the family.
