have some basic E70 questions...
first off, great forum! so happy to find such a resourceful place filled with X5 enthusiasts! in the market for a newer X5, and have a few basic questions:
1) which models E70 are there? its my understanding from 2007-2010, there were the choice of: a) 6 cylinder b) 8 cylinder c) turbo diesel and from 2011-present a) 6 cylinder turbo b) 8 cylinder turbo c) turbo diesel is that correct? 2) can the NAV system be used while driving? my Lexus requires the car be stopped, which is a deal breaker for me as I'm in outside sales, constantly making changes behind the wheel 3) is the keyless entry such that i never take the key out of my pocket? Lexus has this, my Acura does not, can't stand needing to get key in/out of pocket all day 4) is it worth the extra money for the newer turbos, or is there greater value in the earlier e70's that have been discounted, but less power and lower MPG? 5) does the Dinan chip increase/decrease gas mileage above stock performance? (assuming the car is driven the same of course!) 6) lastly, I just priced a new X50i on BMWUSA.com, fully loaded, $80k sticker, and the quote for a lease was $2500 down, 36 months, @ $576/month, clearly this is an error? thanks!! |
i wouldn't suggest a lease if you drive the thing for work. my 2008 4.8 has 77K miles on it. i average 21k miles per year.

I'll answer some of the questions.

i don't lease as a rule but i would guess you would pay thru the nose for that kind of mileage. what is this "Owners Choice" finance option i see on the website now? |
To comment on Richard in NC's reply...
I have a 2007 4.8i and I can get about 20mpg on the highway. Not sure where he got the 16 figure from. Around town, though, she gulps gasoline. |

Why aren't used 50i's I'm finding CPO? They just offer remainder of factory warranty?

So I'm kind of a tight spot. I only want the TTnengine so I'm looking at a 2011 model, but none of them are CPO? Seems silly I can buy a car a year older and get a warranty twice as long....guess I'll just have to wait for 50is to CPO, or I guess get an extended warranty? What is the cost of 100k factory warranty add on?

Adaptive drive seems hard to find on used models, is it possibly built into another package or is it just not that popular?
Active steering, some like it, some don't, any opinions? Re: sport package, I drive long distances and some have said to avoid sport suspension, any opinion? With that, how many cars have sport package but delete suspension? |

I have Active Steering as well. It makes a big difference parking, especially with 19" or 20" wheels. I also like the quick easy steering in the twisties and have enough road feel as well. I have no issues with MSport and 19s for long trips. Not uncomfortable at all. I just did two 1000 mile round trips this past month. |

found a private party X5 a few miles from my home. fully loaded but has the rear-dvd set up, which I've heard nothing but bad things about it. I hear it gets in the way all the time, and to be honest, think it looks pretty cheesy in an $80k car. is this removable?
also, a dealer told me they could CPO a car they have for sale for $2,200, can I buy private party and then CPO the car? I put 25-30k miles a year on the car, definitely worth $2,200 for the longer warranty. |
