iPhone media snap-in adapter issue

I have the iPhone Media Snap-in Adaptor in my 2012 X5. Whenever I launch Spotify on my device and start to play a track, after a few seconds the play/pause icon turns from || to >, the Spotify playback stops, and whatever I was listening to most recently on the iPod app on the iPhone starts playing. If I then press > on the Spotify app, normal playback resumes. Frequently this will happen one or two more times, but eventually it stops and I can then listen to Spotify uninterrupted. I have noticed this with other audio playback apps (such as when listening to a baseball game with MLB At Bat 11).

It seems that the snap-in adapter "wants" to play the iPod content of my phone and "takes over" control of the playback source. It gets annoying since it happens every time.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to prevent the iPod from playing back like this?

I don't have the snap-in adapter, but the same thing happens to me using both USB or Bluetooth. I found the problem to be inconsistent signal quality on the data side, which then causes the system to default back to iPod.

On a side-note, I just heard from BMW Germany that around October, the BMW apps/smartphone integration modules should be available for local dealer install! If I hear more on that topic, I'll post it. For now, I don't know which models will have it available to them, but I would imagine post LCI at least.

You could try the following. Start the iPhone playing music normally through the iPod. Then double click the home button and kill the iPod app. This will stop the iPod music playback. Now launch any music app.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately that didn't solve the problem. I killed all apps on the iPhone, put it onto the snap-in adapter, launched Spotify, and started a song. After about 5 seconds, the music stopped and the play/pause button changed from || to > as before. This time, however, the iPod app did not start. I pressed > and normal playback continued. So the iPod app running does not have anything to do with the underlying problem.

When I disconnected the iPhone from the adapter and then launched Spotify, the problem did not occur. Thus it seems that the issue lies in the way the snap-in media adapter comunicates with the iDrive.

wow good to know it supports (kind of) spotify; i created an account but have not bought the mobile listening feature yet.

It supports Spotify fine, just has a couple of false starts. Once it gets going, it runs just fine. Definitely upgrade to Spotify Premium...it will be the best $10 you ever spent (assuming you are a music lover).

Hmm. I have the older CCC idrive and the music (not media) snap in cradle and that process works for me.

I kill the iPod app once the phone is in the cradle though ... So all goes quiet before I then launch another music app such as spotify or pandora or tune in radio ...

Btw, since you have a 2012 you could always do BT audio streaming ... I think the next / previous track buttons will work.

I assume you're using a iPhone 4? Anyone know if the 3G adapter would fit the first gen iPhone?
