Tire time
35000 miles on my OEM Michelin latitude RFTs. Have 19" sport pkg on my 2009 diesel.
Looking at Continental extreme DWS and Firestone Destination ST. Leaning towards the contis but I am a bit concerned with the softer sides. Anybody know anything about the Firestones? Thanks! |
Just curious, with 35k on the Michelins, what do you hope to gain with the competitive tires that the Michelins didn't provide?
|
^^ Maybe not buying French?
:) |
Don't get me wrong, the Michelin's have been good to this point. But to replace all 4 with OEM Michelin is about $1300 versus $900.

My OE MXV4 tires were made in Canada. Probably helped BMW with NA content rules. We're only a little bit French. And the Michelin plants here are in Nova Scotia. Michelin claims 19 North American tire plants, with over 22,000 employees. I'll get you your order of freedom fries now  |
I went with Yokohama Avid Envigor no-season tires. I've been happy with them so far.
My first choice was the Conti DWS, but they were on back order with an unknown delivery time and I needed tires before snow season. Anyway, the Yoko's worked great, were cheaper then the Conti's and had good reviews on tirerack. |
FWIW,
I went to the Yokohama Avid Envigors today (at 18k miles) and wish I'd done it on day 2. The ride is really that much better. Just Do It (apologies to Nike). |
I just noticed that I'm having too much fun with my X5. The left front edge of my OEM Bridgestones is shot at 15000 miles. I am just about to switch to my winter tires (Yes, even for Charlotte) so decision time will be next spring.

Your winter tires will just suffer the same. Do a $99 alignment at a good tire store (not the dealer) and set the toe to the bare minimum, and symmetric. A |
The Conti's are awesome, have about 3k on mine and couldn't be happier with the ride, lack of noise and traction.
