E70 Leaks Water from visor light
I am looking for some advice on how to find a leak from my sunroof but is coming through my light in the passenger visor area. The light does not work and the housing is collecting water. Also under the floor matt on the passenger side is all wet. I have a musty mildew smell in the car and am fearful that my padding and carpet is drenched and moldy. What could this be? Could this be my sunroof seal or drain?

Here is a pic of the light removed and the water discoloration.

I'd do two things... clear both front sunroof drains and replace the sunroof seal. But you're going to have to remove that carpet to dry it (or replace it if it is too moldy). If you are out of warranty I'd consider an insurance claim if the carpets need to be replaced.

Carpet can SEEM dry on top, but there is A LOT of padding under it, that once wet will not dry until exposed to blown, dry air..... Fail to dry that padding and you can get mold, smells, rust and rotting. |
My Jeep's carpeting has gotten soaked twice because of clogged sunroof drains. Best $60 investment you can make is a high velocity blower fan from a hardware store. Point it down at the carpet overnight and they're bone dry in the morning.

On BMW's carpets with a few inches thick of foam molded to them you need the blowers to hit under the carpets, so you the seats and sill plates etc. need to be removed to prop up the carpets. It takes days to dry some of them at the shop. Them you'll have airbag faults etc. from having the seats out.
