So did we determine if the BMW turbo will be unreliable?

I think that it was determined that BMW makes cars that are meant to be thrown away after the warranty expires. :). I'll keep mine and see what happens.

from what i have gained, you shouldn't have to worry about the turbos as long as you keep regular maintenance.im looking forward to the turbo 4cyl.it takes a step to show audi whos boss and smaller engines are generally more reliable then bigger ones.hopefully the new turbo 4cyl gets ride of the the fuel pump failures the 3 series is notorious for.after that we only have to worry about the rest of bmw's electronics and we all know how much fun that is going to be...:(

It's a hung jury.

No, but we got to talk about engines for a little bit. IMO it is a nice change from window regulators, final stage resistors, window tint, and "Do I need winter tires?" At least it isn't CCV season for a couple more months.

I'd agree with your turbo reliability conclusion. The N54 fuel pump issue appears to have been resolved with the switch to a new high pressure fuel pump supplier (BMW doesn't build any of their own fuel pumps). That doesn't imply though that the N20 won't have teething issues like most new models do.
