One Month with the E70... my thoughts (and issues)

So I've had the E70 for just over one month now. (http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ew-me-e70.html)

Overall I'm very happy I decided to get an E70. I'm 100% certain I will be head over heels happy once I get new wheels. :driver:

Here's my One Month Review...
  • I cannot stand that I can only change the radio presets with my right hand. If there are two ways to change them, why are they both on the right side?!
  • I swear the side mirrors have a double-vision appearance.
  • I love iDrive.
  • Why in the hell are the death stickers permanent on the sun visors?!
  • I don't like how the fog light comes on with the turn signal.
  • Why are the inner AE rings brighter than the outer? P.S. I WANT the 2011 white AE's! Can I switch them?!
  • I love the folding mirrors... when I remember to push the button. lol
  • I have to basically punch the fuel door several times to get it to open. (Going to dealer on Monday to fix.)
  • The sunroof won't open all the way. No matter how many times I press the button. Today it got stuck open in the tilt position. (Going to dealer on Monday to fix.)
  • The 2-1 downshift is very rough. It throws me forward as if I hit the brakes. (Going to dealer on Monday to fix.)

I'm convinced these things are designed to fall apart once they turn three years old.

You only noticed the death stickers? How about how HORRIBLY cheap the visor looks??!! Way to cut costs BMW!

I dislike the fog lamps as well (they also turn on when you are in reverse) because it always looks like 1 is burnt out

I love how the inner halo is brighter I think it looks great

The shifting issue is known on the E70's. The software was updated on mine and it's still rough on hills

kthankzbye 09-10-2011 02:05 AM

My driver side mirror has the same double vision going on. It's more towards the top part of the mirror. I need to bring it in to the dealer, that can't be right.

LOL I agree about the visors. I really miss the quality of my E53's interior, but I knew this going into the E70.

Yup! Nothing like sitting at a traffic light waiting to turn and everyone facing you thinks your fog light is burnt out. :tsk:

Have you seen the new AEs?! They are sooo hawt!

Yeah... it's bad, definitely can't be right. I'm going to say something on Monday when I take it in.

Great points in here--little things that most people dont think about. I agree with the fog lights. kind of weirded me out first time i saw it.

Have you decided on which wheels?

rh71 09-10-2011 10:00 AM

E70 fog lights aren't as bad as the Audi led lights that go off on one side when they have their small little yellow turn signal on. It looks like a whole strip of LEDs burned out. For us, the only way we can avoid this by not using the AUTO light setting... or just having the fogs turned on everytime.

And just to be sure on the sunroof... you are "pushing" the button but are you sliding it back for the roof to slide open?

The death stickers are bad, but so is the clear sticker on the windshield.

I am to the point of no return on the clear sticker. One of the corners has come loose a bit but I'm afraid to just pull the thing off. It would take a day by a NASA engineer to remove it, clean the residue on the windshield and it still might look horrible.

LOL Yes... I am sure I'm opening it correctly. I'm sliding it back to open it and it goes not quite half way and stops. I push it again for it to go the rest of the way, but the motors runs and nothing happens.

What clear sticker on the windshield? :dunno:

///M, its good that you are loving your e70

iDrive on 2010s and up is far more superior, but who needs that if you love your iDrive now? :D

I believe folding mirrors can be programmed so that when you lock your car, they fold automatically... as well as closing the windows remotely of course...

Yes, the 2010+ iDrive is awesome.

I don't think I can program the mirrors on the 2008. At least I know I can through iDrive. :(

No... :saad:

I can't decide what I want to do. I haven't fallen in love with any of the wheels I've seen like I did with the 87's on the E53.

I'm leaning toward 214s, but still not 100% sure.

im sorry, i forgot to mention you can only do it outside of the dealership...

there is a member here (lex99frc) from NY that will do it for $50, been planning to get it myself, but been very busy modding my 05 330i ZHP...

and for the wheels, i know your are not a fan of replicas, but have you seen X6 ///Ms reps rims on an e70?

For $50 it's definitely worth it!

No... I haven't seen them! Linky?? I'm not a fan of replicas, but I'm not counting them out.

Yes! I love it! Makes mine look plain :(

I overall think the E70's interior is just as nice as the E53's. However the creaking/cracking sounds annoy me. It's much more modern which I love. Be careful where you lean you arm because combined with the seat belt hitting it my driver's side door wood trim is starting to crack

:iagree: ...Mich, imo the 214s may be the finest wheel for E70s.
Tell the Admins to give you a raise as a Mod, and cop a set...;)

Yes, I agree, the E70's interior is much more modern. Taken modern out of the equation, the interior and leather just have a more plasticy/vinyl feel than the E53. :dunno:

Yeah... I'm really leaning toward them!

LMAO - regarding that raise, 20% x $0 is still $0! ;)

What??? You're getting $0??? That's more than I'm getting! :p:

I like the 214 too. I like some aftmarket wheels too but there is something about OEM (look) wheels. I even like other BMW wheel combinations like using the X6M wheels on an E70. The pics in the link look good.

Nuttin'? I am really surprised...
Maybe sell one of those cows for steaks & burgers? :p:

rayxi 09-10-2011 04:04 PM

Not making any extra money selling cookies?

Xtony 09-10-2011 10:12 PM

I've solved several of the OPs issues. Removed the visor stickers using Goof Off. Had someone in Atlanta "code" the car so I can fold/unfold mirrors with the remote, close windows/sunroof with remote, and close the tailgate with remote.

shaunmed 09-16-2011 11:14 PM

no fix for the 2-1 downshift.

Quicksilver 09-17-2011 12:31 AM

What's BMWs logic behind the fog light turning on when you turn. I remember seeing that mentioned before but i'm not sure if I ever saw the reason for it.

cmyX6go 09-17-2011 06:07 AM

Me like these wheels....

assisting the cornering lights, when you turn, it allows better visibility into the turn. Works as advertised.

It really does work well, but still looks dumb.

4MoJoe 09-19-2011 01:13 PM

I'm more concerned with safety/visibility and I like that the fogs come on in corners as well as in reverse; really adds a lot of light. As I've gotten older my poor nighttime vision is worse so anything that helps is welcome.

Something I forgot to mention in my first post:

Is there a way to turn off the vent in the arm rest? My iPod is freeeeeezing cold! Is it going to be burning up hot when I have my heat on this winter? :dunno:

Can this be done remotely or you have to visit him. Also where is he?
