Water Troubles

My mother came to visit me this weekend and she said that with the heavy rains in the Northeast, they had some issues with my pop's 2010 X5 (again).

When they were driving home one evening during the deluge a couple weeks ago, the driver's door ajar warning came on suddenly. His was in traffic, so he tried repeatedly to open/close the door, but the warning would not shut up, so they drive the remaining 1 hour with the door chime bonging away. (I would have just parked the car on the side of the road and taken a taxi.)

Next day, the door ajar chime was off. However, the power folding mirrors and driver's door switches no longer worked, at all. They had to unfold the mirrors by hand. Later in the day, the switches began to work again, presumably stuff had dried out.

However, the next time, the switches stopped working again, and this time the driver's window was left/stuck open and once again the driver's switch panel stopped working. They were unable to drive the car anywhere because of the open window (obvious theft concern).

I told them to bring the car to the dealer, although they'll probably say "could not replicate". Has this happened to anyone before? I suspect there's a faulty seal or vapour barrier that's causing the electronic fritzes. :dunno:

Yeah, I think I will tell them to record it the next time it happens. Rainy, fall season is coming around in the Northeast so I think it'll be a persistent problem.

I don't think there was any water inside the vehicle (i.e carpets), probably an issue isolated to the driver's door.
