Side view mirrors folding issue

Hi All,

I'm having an tiny issue with the side view mirrors of my 2011 X5 35d. One taken 1-2 seconds more than the other to fold.

BMW says is pretty common and no 2 mirrors close at the same time so its not an issue. This was not a problem until recently. They worked fine for 5-6 months and closed exactly at the same time.

Your thoughts.

Most likely the acuator is slowing tanking. Have the dealer swap it out. If they say it is "working" and you do not need it swapped out, just keep on using it over and over and over. If it is slow and is dying, that will help it to the grave hopefully :)

and make sure they document their finding so you can use it as ammo for later.

I'm tired of this cr** with BMW and the stealership...when I say the seats squeak - they say it doesn't squeak enough.

when there is less air flow through the left AC vent - they say that's how all the X5's are.

When I complain about the mirror - they say all cars have some lag.

should I complain to BMWNA or are they equally concerned like the stealership and don't give a rats a**?

I would call another dealer in the area, see if they can help.

I would have them walk you out to the lot and try the above things on 3 random X5's and most likely they won't do it and as such I would say "FIX IT!"

Mirrors are located ouside. They are subject to rain, dirt, heat, condensation, etc. Before whining to the world, I'd recommend trying some silicone spray to lubricate moving part. If it doesn't fix the issue (? as I don't see big deal here, but opinions vary), THEN demand repair, although I think you'll waste your time, frankly speaking.

that's the reason I posted here...to know what to do. I know if it's an easy DIY, why drive 20 miles to the dealer. But if i'm already going to the dealer - why are they saying it's a non issue and that every car has a lag.

Which part should I lubricate? Will I need to disassemble the mirror?

Just spray where folding and stationary parts meet.

Maybe they're actually being tactful and are really thinking that you're nuts!
