Bad AC Compressor

2008 4.8 E70 39,000 miles, Heard a whiring/rubbing/bad beraing sound coming from my engine compartment while the engine was idling. The sound would intensify has I increased the RPM's while the car was in park, leading me to believe it was something tied to the motor. Took it to the dealer and was told its probablly the AC's compresor. Just wanted to bring it to everyones attention just in case you have heard a weird sound from the engine compartment. I'm glad I caught it before my warranty is up next month.

I had the same issue..was surprised that the replacement compressor was a re-manufactured one, not brand new....I didn't make a fuss as the lease was almost up, but if I owned it I would have done some research to see what warranty says about installing re-man parts...I'm sure it's up to BMW...

Same thing happened to me at 39k. Waited for a week for new compressor from Germany.

My fan blower motor unit was replaced under warranty for a similar noise.

Replaced the AC compressor on my 2007 4.8 with 100k miles. Cost over $2k.

Was that at the dealer or @ a shop?

Sorry for bringing old post up.

Those who replaced the compressor, do you have a problem on fitting the new one?

I bought Behr replacement compressor but somehow my mechanic was not able to fit that one to my car. I do see some differences, but since I was unable to go under the car so I don't know what exactly happened.

FYI, the replacement behr unit was 8FK 351 340-921 as per below pic

the old one in the car is bmw part 64 50 9 121 760 that looks like below
BMW-53-CSE717C-PV4-REMAN - YouTube

there is noticable difference on the back (half cylinder orientation) and top side (top front face on behr is rectangle while the old one is at an angle).

Apart from that differences, based on ruler measurement i do feel the mounting holes does located exactly as the old one.

The back alumunium holder piece do have groove aligned with the back of old compressor where the raised cylinder was toward 7 o'clock (in contrast to the behr where it raised toward 4 o'clock position).

any idea?

What is your question?

You bought a compressor that should have fit.
The mechanic said "it doesnt fit"
YOU DIDNT BOTHER TO LOOK
Now what?

mkurniawansyah 05-06-2015 04:31 AM

Yeah silly me innit.
Compressor ended up to actually fit though.
It's just not much room to work with that may suggest that the compressor could not aligned.

Sorry for the very late reply.
