My 2011 seems slower than my 2010?
 

I recently purchased my father 2011 X5d to replace my 2010 X5d (pictures below) since he was getting a 2012. Both vehicles are bone stock. Exact same options, Y spoke wheels etc. The problem is after driving the 2011 for a few days it seems slower, specifically when the turbos first start to spool in that torquey/boosty stage of acceleration. It definitely doesnt feel like it has the same torque. So I took the car in yesterday, they ran diagnostics and compression and said the car is perfect. Can anyone clue me in on why the 2011 might feel different?

The vehicles are made to learn the driving style of the driver. It'll change the transmission behavior and air/fuel mixture ratio among many things. So even the same models can feel different.

So how can I reverse this?

I think you can press the gas pedal to the floor and put the car into accessory mode. Not sure but someone on the board should know.

Ok so over time you can actually make your car slower by not driving hard? BTW made a deal on a valenca orange M1 today.

You may have to take to dealer if you don't want to wait or you can try if this works.

Reset throttle response:

1) Insert the key & push the start button. (Don't touch the brake pedal & don't remove the key at any time)

2) Press & hold the accelerator down for 10 seconds.

3) Without releasing the accelerator push the start button.

4) Release the accelerator.

5) Wait a full 2 minutes.

6) Start the car normally & drive to see if it's more responsive.

Press and hold it down how far, full throttle?

What is the mileage on each? I'd bet a better explanation is that the 2010 is fully broken-in, so the drivetrain has loosened up a bit.

Almost exactly the same on each, 50k miles.

So they are both fully broken-in. 50k is a lot on a 2011 or 2010; the equivalent of 4-5 years of use, so there are many variables.

If you have the opportunity to run both on a dyno on the same day, you will know for sure if there really is a power discrepancy.
