Cost to install Nav?

I just bought a 2010 X5 4.8 but it has no nav. Anyone have any suggestions
As to how about getting one? Any idea on the cost?

I plan on going to a dealer but is it worth looking into a custom installation? Has anyone had a nav installed in their X5?

I suspect it will cost more than it would to trade in the car and purchase a similar model with nav...if its even something a dealer would do. Aftermarket is probably your only realistic option.

OK.

DO NOT go to a dealer.

There are a few companies that offer various navigation upgrades using BMW parts- like converting your car from the older I-Drive to the new CIC I-Drive. Like $3k as I recall?

If OE is important to you (it is to me) this is THE way to go. Yes, garmins are cheaper and some say better...but I like the integration with Idrive.

There is also Bimmer Retrofit

Maybe I just don't know how to use the navigation in my X5 very well, but most of the time, I use it, I end up cursing it. The interface on my iPhone for me is much easier to use than the blasted thing in the middle of the dashboard. I cannot imagine actually wanting this device enough to spend the thousands of dollars it would take to retrofit it. Forget the BMW nav, use your iPhone or get a Garmin. That would be the better choice.

I can agree the Apple/Google maps- which are continually updated- are better than the Teleatlas maps.

BUT, if you tell me it is easier to hold your iPhone in two hands and route your trip, as compared to driving with one hand, navigating with the other, while keeping an eye on the road, I'll call you on that.

Again, not in love with the BMW navigation (actually I've used it extensively in Germany, Switzerland and Holland, and it is very, very good- better than US maps) but again, integration is pretty nice.

^^ You can't beat integration period.
