anyone had "state inspection" done?

my x5 is due for this. pretty sure they check tires and my tires are at wear bars and need to be replaced but, will the dealer hold your car hostage unless you buy tires from them and install it on the day of the inspection?

i dont wanna do this cuz i already bought winter tires and rims.

thankssss!

ard 10-31-2011 09:48 PM

In "Norge" what is the state inspection?

;)

It isn't a "BMW mandated inspection", but rather a reminder that you can set if you do, in fact, have a state inspection.

AzNMpower32 10-31-2011 10:18 PM

The state safety inspection is not covered under the BMW Maintenance Plan. If the dealer does it "for free", it's out of their own pocket. You can set the date yourself and reset when it's done.

That said, the safety and emissions dates in the Check Control are user-set because it's not something that's part of the BMW vehicle maintenance requirements, but rather a legal requirement that varies from state-to-state and country-to-country. For example, SC has no inspection requirements at all. Virginia has no emissions but has the annual safety inspection ($16). NC has annual emissions (most counties) and safety inspections.

Jeg Norge 10-31-2011 10:27 PM

can anyone comment on the tire situation? :D

Naz24 10-31-2011 10:32 PM

they wont hold your car hostage, you'll just get a pretty "rejected" sticker above your current registration and depending on state a certain amount of days to get it reinspected.

throw the snow tires on soon and go for an inspection, problem solved

OMG

You clearly are not listening or understanding what people are saying.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

IS THERE A STATE INSPECTION IN YOUR STATE?

Answer those and we can tell you if there is a tire inspection.

Sheesh

Adz 11-01-2011 12:19 PM

You can get your vehicle inspected at any place that has this service. Probably cheaper at a non-BMW shop. The shop you pick can not hold your vehicle. All they do is check, sign and stamp the inspection form that you MUST take to the DMV for registration. If it doesnt pass inspection you don't get your registration. So if the vehicle has any issues, you must fix them and get it inspection for a pass versus a fail, prior to visiting the DMV.

im in canada right now. lol turns out in canada it's just a service light reset.

You will get back an hour this weekend. (Except in Hawaii and Arizona and the Canadian province of Saskatchewan)

i spent 12 years in school learning to type complete words while writing a sentence or a question. and in that time i also learned how to complete a thought.

the intrawebs have dumbed me down enough to where i do not use capitalization while i type. what happened to you? i mean other than the fact that you were obviously dropped a few times on your noggin while you were a wee kinder?

BMW has nothing to do with your tires passing any kind of inspection other than a CPO or lease turn-in inspection. which by the sounds of things are just two more things you are bound to fail.

seriously? Norge is from Canada?

I'm pretty sure they use capitalization and punctuation in Norway. What you are really saying above is that you are lazy, and you don't have any respect for the people you are attempting to communicate with. If you don't respect others, how can you ask them to respect you? If you write like a six year old, then we are probably going to come to our own conclusions about your maturity and capability. That may not be fair, but it is how the world works. For example, I never would have guessed you were old enough to have kids, I would have guessed you were a teenager yourself.

people who drive are lazy too. maybe we should all just start walking. if you can turn "typing in lower case" to "he has no respect for people". you need a chill pill, or a few. :nanana:

taking things TOO seriously cause unnecessary stress on the body, over time it can give you health issues. something to think about.

ard 11-08-2011 05:10 PM

Well, you know that old adage: "Ignorance is Bliss"

You must lead a hugely relaxed and blissful life, eh?

:nanana:

Fixed your post for you. I now see what you were trying to say.

My health is great thanks, partly due to all the active transportation (walking and cycling). Correlating driving with laziness is not correct. Some drivers may be lazy, but not all are. Some drivers just need to get somewhere. On the other hand, you say that it is 'normal' to use punctuation but that when you text with your kids you don't type normally. You then proceed to do the same here, effectively equating us with your children. While they perhaps don't know any better, some of us do.

You could use some work on your logic as well as your grammar and punctuation.

I still want to know where Norge is. You have ignored the question several times.

Norge is how people in Norway spell the name of their country in their own language.

Yes, but Jeg has posted his location as Norge (Norway), asked about US State Inspection reminders on his E70, and stated that he is in Canada. What I was actually asking was what his location was, since 'Norge' appears to be false information.

Are we able to reset the service lights without the use of BMW equipment?

In my 2010 it was settable via iDrive.

Thanks ard.

I have a 2008 and I remember when the service light came on i could not see an area where I could go to reset it. I could go into the service area and see further details such as when I need the next state inspection, now 2011. Instead my dealer did some kind of walk around and charged me $200 to reset the light :dunno:
