Coded 2012 X5, free X5 codings in Seattle

Just finished coding our 2012 X5;

There were many hours spent to learn how to code 2012 model, it's difficult to code new car than old models due to software issues.

In case you need to code 2012 E70 DIY, here are the tricks I can share with you to make your life easier:

1. SP-daten-E70 version must be updated properly to V41 or higher to work with 2012 models
2. EDIABAS must be updated to 7.2 or beyond properly; The one in the guide is 6.4 which won't work with v41 daten;
3. Both Win7 32bits and XP mode in Win7 workes, but not in 64bits Win7
4. Buy coding cable from reputable store.

It roughly took me two weekend days to get things right(Most time downloading hard to find right softwares); There were a lot of frustration when I had no clue what was wrong there, but felt a big accomplishment when eveything was sorted out.

For the fellows with X5 living in Seattle, I am going to share my happiness with you, I can code free for you with my spare time, but since I have a busy job and a family with tough wife and two cute crazy boys, I hope you can understand that I can't commit too much time here. So I will only code five X5, that's it.

The first five X5 drivers living Seattle replied this thread can get free coding.

Here is the list I did to our X5:
1. Disable iDrive disclaimer
2. Windows up and down, sunroof open/close with key fob
3. Mirrors in and out with key fob
4. Unlock doors when engine is turned off
5. Eject Keyfob with engine off
6. Fogs on with high beam flash
7. Wiper cycle finishes when engine is turned off
8. Digital speedometer in cluster
9. Hazzard double blink (flash, flash, pause, flash flash, pause)
10. Remote trunk close (closing tailgate with key fob and button inside cabin): my wife's favorite.

Above features were tested working properly, I properly can do more but I perfer not to perform untested features.

Since I'm not charging for this, I'm not liable for any and all possible damage, and you will need to sign a waiver before coding.

Cheers.;)

How to learn more?

miamipanther,

I actually live nearby in Lake Forest Park. Our 2012 X5 is on order for delivery next month. I am not asking for you to code our car, but can you suggest sources where I can learn more to do this myself? This is all new to me; Very fascinating, and many possibilities...

We are living woodinville, 10 minutes away from your place, I am more than happy to code for you, but in case you really want to code 2012 X5 by yourself, here are the steps
1. Buy cable from here, make an offer $85, the seller will accept it. The cable is shipped from China, it may take 10-15 days.
2. Read this guide (link), and understand the whole procedure. Pay attention to the tricks in my first post.
3. Tweak these parameters on your X5
===================
Wiper wipes to End position after turning engine off
When Wiper is Wiping, and you turn engine off, it will now keep on going.
Module JBBF
ZYCLUS_VOLLEND_KLR_AUS
aktiv
===================
Disable Sidemarker
FRM Module
SIDEMARKER_US
nicht_aktiv
===================
Double Blink Hazards (some thing cool looking)
FRM Module
DOPPELBLINKIMPULS_WARNBLK
aktiv
===================
Key fob remote mirror close
FRM Module
ASP_KOMFORT_EINKLAPP
aktiv
===================
Fog lights with Highbeam on
FRM Module
FL_UND_NSW_NICHT_GLEICHZ
nicht_aktiv
Fog lights with Highbeam Flash
LH_UND_NSW_NICHT_GLEICHZ
nicht_aktiv
===================
Key fob Windows UP when press and hold the lock button
CAS Module
KOMFORTSCHLIESSUNG_FB (window up through key fob)
aktiv
KOMFORTSCHLIESSUNG_PA (window up through comfort access)
aktiv
===================
Eject Keyfob with engine off
Press and hold the start/stop button 1 second. Key will be released.
CAS Module
KOMFORT_EJECT
nicht_aktiv -> aktiv
at the same time it will Unlock doors when engine off/key ejected
CAS
ER_KEYOUT_AUTOVR
nicht_aktiv -> aktiv
===================
Remote trunk close (closing tailgate with key fob and button inside cabin)
HKL Module
SCH_FBD
aktiv
SCH_TOEHKI
aktiv
TASTER_FBD
aktiv
===================
V=Digital Speed (you will have to reset the time after)
KOMBI Module
BC_DIGITAL_V
aktiv
BC_DIGITAL_V_KORREKTUR
aktiv
===================
Disable iDrive Disclaimer
CIC Module
LEGAL_DISCLAIMER_TIME
kein_ld

===================
Remove IDrive warning when starting the car. (this is for CCC units)
CAPPL
LEGAL_DISCL
aktiv -> nicht_aktiv
===================

It might look simple, but you may need to take fair amount of time to understand the principle behind in order not to screw your car, there are some confusions because some steps in the guide may not apply.

I know it looks cool and may be necessary in certain environments, but I'm curious if in the end folding mirrors much more often results in premature breakdowns. I mean, BMW isn't really famous for reliability of its electric parts. On the other hand, in my previous 325 the rear windows were rarely opened and yet one required new regulator...

You don't have to fold them. You have the ability to by holding the lock button a little longer.

miamipanther 11-16-2011 02:43 PM

Right, it's still your choice to fold the mirror or not after mirror coding.

And there is another advantage of this mirror coding, the mirror will be unfolded automatically once the door is unlocked, it's more intuitive comparing the stock behavior of pressing button to unfold it.

Hi miamipanther,

I'm in the area and would love to take you up on this. My X5 is on order with expected delivery end of this month/early Dec but wanted to add my name to the list now if okay.

Thank you!
Mike

Congrats on your new ride, 1 out of 5 spots taken.

Terrific. I'll reach out once I have the vehicle ... I work up in Redmond (Microsoft) so hopefully can coordinate something convenient for you.

I didn't save the links, but somewhere at BMW forum. Diagnostics, coding, programming, repair BMW vehicles.,

sjjon 11-18-2011 08:12 AM

I'd be glad to offer the same services for free, I'm in the south jersey/philadelphia area if anyone around here wants anything coded. send me a message and let me know.

Miamipanther,

I have a 2011 X5 35d in Bellevue and would love to have you show me the ropes with a little coding. In return, I'll buy a cable, pay attention and offer to help some other folks. I'm decent with software, but have not been able to track down the v41 daten files so at a minimum your help in locating would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Kurt

You guys are luck; wish there was someone in the Tampa area.

MP-

I purchased this cable, then just opened it to tie the two bus pins together:
Amazon.com: OBD2 OBD II Diagnostic USB Cable For KKL409.1 VAG-COM 409: Camera & Photo

(Yes, it uses the right FTDI chipset)

Only used it on the E39 so far...any reason to think it would not work?

miamipanther 03-02-2012 02:01 PM

YMMV, the only way is to try it out on the car :p:

Did you try it on the e70 (is it a 2012?). I have a 12-11 build and have been dying to code it, but the cable everyone recommends is out of stock. Thanks.

Not yet, I'll try and at least communicate with it over the weekend.
