valet key
 

So i took my keys and my wife's keys by mistake. She managed to start the car with the valet set.
Is there a distance limit? will this affect anything?

I don't have first hand knowledge, but with my decade long experience with BMW's, I don't think it will make a difference.

actually she drove about 20km and nothing happened. I almost fell off my chair when BMW asist said they cannot start the vehicle remotely. But talking to another rep, if you leave the fob in the fob hole in the globe box, they can start it for you without the plastic key. but since we have both there was no point of them starting it.

atleast the third set (plastic key and fob) came in handy today.

The valet key can be used as a normal key But it will not unlock a locked glove box.

the master key is a combination valet and master key. removing the keyed portion of the master key it is now a valet key.

the plastic key is the emergency wallet key, in the case of emergency, or lost master key, it may be used inconjunction with the adapter to start the car.

How do you lock the glove box (2012 model)?

You cannot lock glovebox or the center console, the "hardware key" will lock the spare tire compartment (or the storage compartment if you don't have a spare) Even with the spare, I assume there is a little space in front of it next to the battery.
So if you are going to leave the vehicle with valet, move all your valuables into spare compartment. :) Funny, i know, or just keep them there..
