Need advice to purchase new 2012 X5 35i
I have tons of research to buy my family's(wife's?) hauler replacing 2004 Infiniti FX35. After test driving of competitive candiates, Q7, Q5 and Cayenne, we finally decided to choose X5 35i.
Now it's time to negotiate. I know just missed Mission to Drive promotion. But I want to make a reasonable deal by hearing your feedbacks. Truecar.com says BMW X5 35i Sport Activity white/black with conveience package, technology package, premium hifi audio, 3rd row seat, and leather dashboard. MSRP $68,575 Invoice $63,555 Average paid $63,255 excluding $1,700 option credit and $1,000 BMWFS credit. I thought I just will go 'haggle-free' way as long as the Truecar offer is close to the average price. But Truecar dealers around Atlanta, GA area (United and Athens) offer way much higher price ($1,500 above invoice excluding incentives) than the average. Based on, however, posts on here and edmunds recently, they could get offered around invoice price. How much over invoice should I get these days? Can I still use the average paid price on Truecar.com for negotiation? I will stop by other dealers tomorrow. But I don't want to make an too high first offer. Also if I use BMWFS for financing, can I have both 0.9% APR and $1,000 credit? I read a post here saying that I only can get one of these. But I cannot find the restriction on BMW website. Thanks in advance. |

I was able to get $400 under invoice ($1400 after BMWFS credit). I used Truecar.com numbers to negotiate. The dealer was offering about $750 over Truecar price. But the truecar dealer was about 50 miles away. I figured I'd take the $750 hit for a closer dealer.
That being said, the numerous other dealers I worked with were all offering $500-$1000 over invoice. One dealer would've matched the Truecar price only if I get the loyalty (didn't qualify since my other BMW is an '03) AND BMWFS credit. So, all-in-all, I think I made out okay. Looking back and seeing how well these cars are selling, I probably would've just gone with the haggle-free truecar quote. It would've been the best price...although, I'm not sure how long a wait I would've had. I got a good production number with the current dealer. Not sure where I would've stood with the truecar dealer. I needed the car ASAP since my lease was running out end of Dec. Hope my babbling helps at all. :beerchug: |

None of these websites, or their made up values, matter. The reality is that the market price on ANY BMW (apart from limited production or special vehicles) is $250 to $1000 over invoice BEFORE any rebates. So, if you were to buy an X5 35d, you could be looking at $4000 UNDER invoice when all said and done, depending on what rebates you qualify for. :wow: Additionally, the OP is in Atlanta, so he has two great options: 1) PDC delivery purchasing from any sponsor of this forum. 2) Purchase locally from Adrian Avila who is based in Atlanta and a sponsor. Adrian Avila | LinkedIn Either way, he'll get a $500 over invoice deal BEFORE rebates are applied  |
I understand 12cmim3. Someone, including me, does like to take a haggle-free price as long as it's REASONABLE. But I just realized (thanks to Matt!!) that I can take advantage of that I live in Atlanta!! I also thought about I might have a PDC delivery for weekend trip. But I couldn't think of I can work with someone who can give me the best offer anywhere in the country. Anyway I'm walking into Nalley BMW and let me see what they offer. BTW, is Adrian Avila the Adrian who was a former advisor in Nalley BMW? I read the post about him few months ago here saying that someone had really nice experience with him. I might have to contact him sooner or later.

- Jon Shafer (BMW Santa Barbara) - Adrian Avila (BMW South Atlanta) - Greg Poland (Pacific BMW) - Dencoop (Exotic Auto Leasting) This really is a no brainer... Just contact those guys, do a $500 over invoice deal, and be happy. End of story... |

I forgot that OP was from Atlanta, in which case, yes, those other options are great ones. Now, I'm not saying I'm an expert negotiator or buyer, which I'm not, but maybe I'm missing something here. What exactly is wrong with the Truecar site or the ZAG site? I place a vehicle in there, and they give me a quote of approx $300-400 over invoice. Then they have a list of dealers who will honor that cost. How is this different, or more difficult than the way you were mentioning? :dunno: In fact, it seems to be a lower cost over invoice than your method of asking for $500 over invoice. Did I miss something about Truecars? I only used the site as a basis for my negotiations with the internet department (I don't go into dealers either, except to test drive a car), and haven't used the dealer listed on the site. But it seems to me that this route is just as easy, with a good price, as well. The only bad thing seems to be that sometimes the dealer that honors the price is a little farther away. So, am I missing something here? I'd really like to know...for future purchases. TIA  |
Thanks to all of you. I signed today with $500 above invoice price before option credits and rebates applied. It was not tough and rough at all because I brought my weapon that Matt told. Finally they took my offer. I didn't want to do ping-pong game because they gave me another sweet thing. Today I got the production number and it is scheduled to 51wk. Thanks all again. I will not look back anymore. Let's enjoy!
