Clear Stone and Rock Guard?

Hey everyone,

Who opted for this protection? Im considering it on the hood and upper fender around the headlight.

Is it a factory option? My sales associate is away on holidays and my order is still updatable.

thanks,

I don't think it's available from the factory. My dealer won't even install it. I had a certified 3M installer do my X5 M Sport.

Appreciate the quick response,

I have a long highway drive after i pick it up so i was hoping to have it done at the dealer.

Your dealer might offer it, but at a significant markup to what an independent charges. I talked them down to about $50 more than what a local guy quoted me (same guy who had done two of my previous cars and used to work for the dealer).

Anyway, I've had it done to three cars now and it's well worth the money if you keep your cars for a while.

What did u get done? Just hood and fenders? What did u pay on the x5?

cheers,

I am a vinyl installer, and I share a shop with a detailer. Most clear bras all fade/yellow out after a couple of years and can also cause uneven fading of the paint that's underneath the film.

If you get an inferior product. I had it on my '01 X5 for 9 years never a problem (3M) and on my current.

OP: 3M is now VentureShield. They have the thinnest application I believe on the market compared to any of the others. And yes, go with an independent installer.

That's good to hear. It happens more often than not though.

Ive had it on my performance car for about five years as the hood and funders are carbon and expensive to replace. No fading, i did have this done by a very high-end shop but i am unaware of what they used. The guaranteed no fading or yellowing,

I had the 3M product installed on my 2002 X5 and 2002 330i when new. Just traded the X5 in July and no yellowing or other issues. I still have the 330i and no issues at all there either.

To answer somebody else's question about cost, I think $500 - $600 is around the ballpark these days.
