Looking to buy VMR wheels for the e70

I'm speaking with VMR directly-
their wheels can handle the weight of the e70 x5 and so I might make this purchase. They will bore out the wheels to match our hubs so it won't be a problem (for an added $100 fee). I'm just not sure if the offsets will work...

20 x 9 +35
20 x 10 + 35

I'm thinking it should work fine, and maybe add spacers to flush up the wheels to the body.

Take a look at my photoshop and let me know your thoughts- not sure why there aren't more VMR wheel owners here, since they are so popular with the 3 series crowd.

VMR V710 an approx a 20" diameter spec.

Good taste bro! I almost did the same, but then I decided not to.

What exactly does that mean????? Is there a strength or weight rating, or any kind of specifications whatsoever they would share in writing?

Or just a sales guy over the phone?

generally wheels don't have a specific number the value on load rating (do they?) I always thought they just had ISO type certifications like JWL and VIA

I'm going to ask for specifics.

I mean people here buy replica OEM wheels which may not be JWL or VIA certified and have no issues...

motordavid 01-12-2012 06:03 PM

Not pitching that brand of wheels, but from their site:

"VMR wheels pass JWL, VIA, and ISO-9001:2000 standards to ensure the highest level of safety and quality. For customers in Europe seeking TUV certification, the wheels are stamped on the back with the max load rating. With this stamp on the back of the wheel, you are able to have this wheel approved for use on your vehicle under TÜV standards. You will not have any issues running this wheel due to strict TÜV regulations."

VMR Wheels

All fwiw, but the OP should be able to get a decent response from them.
The 'Net has remarkable sets of info...

20" V710s have a load rating of 815KG. We've put wheels on larger cars before, even though our primary market would be the E90/E92 guys.
Im gonna be a guinea pig for you all :o
So far the communication has be great and responsive, and they do have a huge market in the 3 series crowd.

I'm going to assume from a legality/safety standpoint these guys wouldn't recommend it if it would impose any liability for safety for me.

Why not just do 20X10 with a 275s all the way around? After all, that's the stock front wheel size for a 4.8i with 20s. Chop looks pretty good BTW.

I always thought they did staggered setups even with OEM wheels- I had no idea.

You're right, OEM size is 20X10F and 20X11R, that's why I said 20X10 is the stock front wheel size :D But what I meant was, if you're getting aftermarket wheels, why go with a narrower wheel (and hence narrower tire) than stock? I've read here that some people go square so they can rotate tires, that's where my suggestion came from. FWIW my new wheels just showed up today and I'm getting them mounted tomorrow, they are stock dimensions but with less offset (35mm front, 25mm rear). If you'd like to see a pic of how a 20X10 with 35mm offset looks, let me know

Well i have an 08 with 18 inch oem wheels which are 18x8.5 all around- this will be an upgrade no doubt
Take pics!
I haven't seen many setups with offset info so that would definitely help.

As the Ole' man :D (motordavid) up top said "not pitching the wheel", but I can tell you VMR wheels are some of the most popular among the M3 community. They are great on the track and look good. The weight certifications are a big deal when looking for a track wheel. I say go for it ..........Phil

VMR are garbage, do not buy. Most the people on the M3 forums that buy them are Bimmer newbs. Here's a recent post (December 2011, Golf MkVI Forum) that will be educational ->

Here you go, not the greatest pics and my car's a little dirty (and the plastic parts could use a good detail) but here's my current setup. Rotiform NUE monoblocks, 20X10F and 20X11R with 35mm offset. Here's a crappy driveway pic:

If I had the non-sport wheels, I would probably have gone 20X10 all the way around with 275s. But since mine had the 11s in the rear with the flares, I "had" to keep the staggered setup. Hope this helps!
