adding pager to factory alarm?

I believe the factory alarm system is adequate and provides a decent amount of protection. the design however is missing a pager that could notify you once an alarm has been triggered.. you are pretty much left with relying on the vehicles' siren, and we all know people are so used to hearing them that they are often ignored..

I'm thinking about adding a pager system to supplement the factory alarm.

Has anyone done this?

I'm trying not to install a complete system that includes remote start, window rollups, motion, door lock, etc.. just to get the pager feature.

I know Stellar used to make a BMW plug-in kit but they were for much older models.. (1990-2000)

can't seem to find anything recent from them...

any ideas?

There is no such system that will work on the BMW (ie remote start)

This thing looks like it would page on the event an "alarm" signal was appropriately wired.

I checked out a few products (Python, Viper, etc)

they offer a lot more features than I really need... I already have the factory alarm and it does it's job well... it's just missing the pager alarm feature... I just want to hook up a simple unit w/motion sensor and/or connected to doors so when it is triggered the pager will go off and I will not have to rely on just the factor siren which sounds like everything else in the neighborhood...

I was recommended the Astra 777... inexpensive but is it worth it?

anyone heard or tried this?

sorry no help but I gotta say the bmw alarm chirps like a baby bird. It's pretty pathetic. If I could, I'd add everything and remote start.

Theoretical question - if we could do remote start, and it idles in the driveway, would the heat come on in the same 10 minutes it normally takes when I actually drive it? I'd never idle it 10 minutes though, maybe 3-5 but that's also 5 minutes sooner with heat.

Can't stand that it takes so long when it's 15F at 630am.

ok, spoke to many so called experts in vehicle security... seems like nothing is avaiable in the market today that could work with the factory alarm system... and I'm told they don't recommend adding a supplemental alarm system to it because it would freak out the electrical scanning system and may cause all types of issues.

I'm not trying to add remote start or anything.. i just want to be paged whenever the vehicle is touched...

isn't there a simple standalone motion sensor system that I can install that comes with an antenna and pager to notify me if I am too far to hear the factory siren?

i can't believe no one has thought about this?

I think you are going about this the wrong way- you keep asking about a separate alarm/sensor system to page you...

when all you want is a circuit that pages you when the factory alarm is set off! No new sensors, no new mpotion detectors- simply you want a page when the factory alarm and factory sensors are tripped.

Here is something that you just connect the BMW "alarm out" wire to, add a SIM, and it will call you anywhere.

GSM cellular Auto Dialer, Dakota Alert CAD-05-Kit

most "pagers" are very limited in terms of distance- they just page the little key fob.
